Pretty cool event. it was a fun course. The only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't enough rack space in the transition area for everyone. if you got there late you had to stick your stuff in another transition area, or lean it up against the fence, like i had to do.also, it didn't seem like the start time was very well organized. there was no timing mat to run over before you went into the water. they just said okay go. so if you were at the front of the pack fine, but what if you were at the back of the pack?other than that, it was a lot of fun, and i recomend it for people of all ages and experience levels.
The weather was beautiful and the volunteers helpful. My only complaint was the difficulty of finding the venue from the entry points to the Island. Signage at the bridge, subway, and tram would have been very helpful Thanks for a great event for a great cause.

6-time marathoner and many many time short distance race runner weighing in. I have never run a half-marathon - had to say it.Overall, any comments need to recognize that this was a small event, and I think for a small event it was great.
Chip timing is always a plus. There were just enough aid stations, although a few more wouldn't hurt. I understand volunteers can make that tough, and the volunteers that were there were great.
Liked the winding course. We could see a friend who was ahead of us and cheer her along the way. The woman's T-shirt was nice with the V-neck. The medal was absolutely terrible. All I can say is that you can get a trinket nicer than this at the dollar store (where I have bought cheesy medals for kids). Some entertainment along the course might have been nice as well. The people of KC were nice and the traffic was well managed but it was not a race that I would do again without some upgrades.
This is my first Olathe 1/2 and I have to say the route wasn't bad, I wished there were more of the course on the beatuiful trails we have here in Olathe, instead of on the roads, lots of traffic and some wind, not like you can control those things. The only thing that REALLY bothered me was the lack of water a the first station for me. I went 4 miles without water, as did many others I am sure. That deffinately caused me some heartache (or should I say muscleache) later in the race.........The race volunteers were wonderful, always has something good and motivating to say each time I passed! The Police were awesome as well! I have to agree with some of the others when I say the Great Mall part of the race wasn't the best, the roads were terrible and I appreciate the fact they did paint the bad spots. I totally understand the whole "Mall" thing with the waning interest there.........I will do it again next year, but I hope there will be more trail running!!!
My friend and I were terribly disappointed to find out at the very last minute that the half marathon was not open to walkers! This information was buried at the very bottom of the page after a bunch of advertising. Having participated in three other half marathons, it never occured to us that we were not welcome. After training for months, we did not wish to not be able to complete in the time allowed and bused back to the finish. AND there was, of course, no refund. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
