let me add another reason to be careful as a parent. My daughter at age 11 was told she was extremely skillful for her age, but lacked speed and quickness. She was told by national coaches to skip and do what she could to increase her athleticism. This she did, only to over work a growing body. Shin splints hit in her young teens because of this, and any attempt at top flight basketball was thwarted. It's a regret I have as a father, but she's moved on to other sporting heights from coaching to PE Teaching.... but there are lessons here for parents which I wanted to share. Don't over work growing bodies.
