    I second the benefits of Livestrong Loops! By that I can easily track my speed and the distance I ran, all I need to know is the time I ran. I noticed problems with Firefox/Apple Mac OS. It works perfectly fine with Firefox/WIndows and Safari/Mac OS though.It is a nice tool, I guess any tool based on google maps is easy to use.

    What part of Ohio are you visiting? I'm in Columbus. At 1PM on Thursday it's 93 degrees with a heat index of 104. Stay indoors!


    My dog and I went for a run this morning at 7:30AM - 77 degrees and 80% humidity. Crazy hot for so early. We went one mile and the dog was way too hot so I took him home and then finished my additional 2 miles to make the 3 that was on the training schedule for today. I am in a running club called Marathoner in Training here in Columbus and we do our long runs on Saturdays. They keep making it earlier and earlier to keep us out of the heat. We have seven miles on the schedule for Saturday at 6:30AM. A storm is coming through which will cool it down a bit over the weekend but it will be high 80's and low 90's next week too.


    I just have to say that I'm stunned by how easily I wrote above that I am scheduled to run 7 miles on Saturday. OMG! SEVEN MILES!!! I did six miles last weekend with this group. They have all different paces including run/walk and walk and it's fun because we chat while we run. I've worked my way up to the 13 minute milers and I feel like a bloody speed demon when I consider where I came from, but I'm still a penguin! ONCE A PENGUIN ALWAYS A PENGUIN!!!! So many of us have come such a very long way on this penguin path. I LOVE THE PENGUINS!!!

    Willwriteforcholate... I think we are a week behind you guys on the same plan. I am training for the 1/2 in novermber (Route66) we do our long runs on sat as well but at 0545 (am) not sure witch is worse that I am up before the sun or that I go on about 3 hours of sleep. We are doing 6 this weekend. I was laughing to day because 6 weeks ago I was barley doing a mile before I gave out with walking and running.Now I am trying to get to 3 miles on the treadmill during the week and looking at going 6 miles (if I dont get lost) in 90 degree weather. I enjoying every minute of it. (afterwards that is).

    Your pics are fabulous!! Fellow penguins, have a great weekend. I shall be flying outta here in the morning to go do my first 10K night trail run IN San Antonio. Not to worry, I have made sure that I have pairs of shoes (not just two left shoes)in my suitcase this trip, my trail shoes and my road shoes. Chupacabras, I am coming for you. Then I will be picking up my dad who is flying in to meet me from GA. He has never seen the Alamo. After a couple days, I will return and continue getting ready for the triathlon on the 30th. I have lost my marbles, no wait, I seem to have one or two left.

    Have a great 10K Texsurfmonkey and a very special time with your Dad!       No runs this weekend, struggling to keep moving in the heat, it has been a walk/waddle/walk gig for the past few any pace, I am waddling on anyway....but usually  over 14 minutes

    All of you are very inspiring to me.  I have enjoyed reading everyones posts.  It gives me hope that i can keep going and reach my goals.  I will be doing my first 5K tonight at 7:45, i hope the temperature decides to be kind to me.  I am so nervous and i am not sure why.  i can do 4 miles without any trouble so i should be find doing the 5K.  I think that it is all the other people who are so much faster.  I am worried about keeping my own pace to start out. If not i will have a hard time with my breathing which will mess me up for the whole race.  I really like running by myself as i feel no pressure to be as fast as others.  To all those running this weekend keep cool and safe!

    I'm training with Marathon Makeover in The Woodlands, TX.  I joined then in June, so my group will do 7-8 miles tomorrow. The "older" group will do 15 miles. We'll start at 6am to stay somewhat ahead of the heat.  I've been doing 6 miles on my own lately, so I'm looking forward to running with the group tomorrow.

    runlambrun, no, this is a misunderstanding! I was trying to say in case I run 5k, it would take me at least 40 min or more.

    I run through week 7 right now and in 25 min I run mere 3km.

    Sorry it has been a while since I posted on this thread. School has been crazy and the night classes I teach have been taking their toll. My last late nights are next week and I will be grateful for the extra sleep.


    It is amazing to me that it was only a few months ago I finished C25K. I have a rest day today but a 10-miler LSD tomorrow. 10 miles! woohee. And good luck to all those running and racing this weekend. You all rock!


    Now I have a real hard request to make to all of my running buddies out there. I am running not one but two marathons to raise money for cancer research. I hate cancer. Somehow I have personally been saved from suffering the affects of this killer but it seems to take a wrenching toll from almost every friend and family I know. October 2 I will run the Maraton de Guayaquil in Ecuador and January 29 the ING Miami Marathon.


    I am committed to raising $1,700 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for these events but I’m going farther. My personal goal is to raise a minimum of $5,000 for this great cause because I believe in the mission of the LLS and what they invest in. In my first active week fundraising, great friends have already donated $350. It is the first step, with more to go.


    I am asking everybody to donate $25 to LLS as part of my marathon fundraising effort. Just about anybody can do $25. You can do $25. Even if you can’t, please give $10 to beat cancer. Make it $5 if you have to. If nothing else send me an email of good wishes, or even some prayers. Be part of the cure.

    You can even give more! There is nothing like helping against this remorseless killer. But $25 will do in a pinch.

    Even my dinky town has a couple of running loops on Livestrong Loops!! Thanks for the tip! I showed my husband and I have a feeling he'll be posting his "loops." 

    And not sure who it was that posted about Hall and Oates, "You Make My Dreams Come True." but I'm adding it to my playlist!!

    I feel so great it was 103 when i started my 5K 94 when i finished.  I did my first 5K in 46:08.  I managed to run the whole way, no walking.
