Hey I can co-sign on the no potties on the running trails. I thought it was just me! When i hold it long enough though, i guess my body just sweats it out maybe? maybe a mind diversion (haha). I also hate lugging a huge water bottle on a long run too, so water stops would be nice.

Well, my 7 mile refresher was a bust today! I was so upset with myself and Texas!!! 97 degrees with a 103 degree heat index, I think i was doomed from the start. My brain thought a (heat of the day) jog would be a good restart to my week-long break, but my body said ("oh hell no!"). I slowly ran about a mile and a half when I began to feel like I sprinted 3 miles. So stubborn old me said I wasn't going to let the heat completely defeat my workout, so I started sprinting some 30 second intervals...did that about 5 times and finally gave up because I knew I had a good 5 more miles before I made it home. Then, I picked up the slow jog again for about 15 mins when my body then told me to just give it up because it wasn't going to happen. I power walked for about 3 miles and that actually felt like I was running. Then, I gave up and just started taking long strides forcing myself through the torchering sun. So, after turtling my way back home with absolutely no energy left, I decided I should NEVER attempt an "LSD" in the scorching heat again. It took me 2:20, yea, I felt really dumb when I made it back inside (haha). Not to mention, I was drinking hot water because the ice water I brought melted. Lesson learned!

Yeah, but I gotta admire your pluck! No worries. Lessons learned and you certainly got a workout!  Take care and don't wear yourself out in the heat!

Hope everyone has been staying cool - I floated between Chicago and east coast this week.  managed to be at both places for the hottest days.

I started couple of times a week run in the morning.  it still seems strange to be out early in the morning around my own house.  I am shooting to get this loop down below 33 min.  first time was 39, next 36 and the last time I ran it  (this past Tuesday) 35 min.  All I did was walk wendsay and Thursday in the evening --  nice and easy -- I was staying outside of Chicago and missed the big storm.  I will be out running again Tuesday morning and hope to lower the time again.

I am amazed at how many people I see running in the heat.  I will walk, but don't try to jog when temp is this high.

I haven't scheduled a race before the VBHM and am debating signing up for Century bike ride.  I have been getting in around 100 miles a week riding (when not on travel).  I will be back on the bike monday  (assuming its below 100!).  I find the biking has helped me with my running this summer - I am not gasping for breath as much and seem to have little more spring in my step.  I also switched to a pair of the really flexible shoes and have been very  happy.  Wearing the old shoes feels funny on the rare occasions I have put them on.

Call it what it is - it's not jogging or power walking unless you want it to be.  It's RUNNING!  Who cares how slow or fast it is?

I got in my 12 miles this morning.  Alarm went off at 4:30 as I wanted to beat the heat.  I saw a flash of lightning in the sky and told myself that I'd wait 15 minutes and check the radar.  An hour later my hubby was waking me up.  Was almost 80 when I started with high humidity in Chicago but it stayed cloudy and we had a fairly gentle rain the last 45 minutes or so I was out there.  Overall, not a bad run.

I've got a 14 next week and then cutback to 7 miles (I'm switching those 2 because of a vacation) when I'm in Indy for GENCON.  The week after is the RnR Chicago HM.

You sound like you are doing great to me! 5 miles is a long way for most anyone at any age no matter how long it takes.

Did you get flooded out with the rain on Friday night/saterday morning?  I was up in Schaumburg this week and managed to get couple of good walks in during the evening - after it cooled down to 95 or so.

although I would not have called it humid as compared to what we have out here in the D.C. area...

Finished the Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz today. My first 10K. 1:21:47. It was such a fun race; like a giant running party. It felt good. Perfect running weather. 15K runners. I highly recommend for any level runner or walker.
