On what running shoes do you run ??

Hello everyone. I am new here.

I am currious about what running shoes you have.

Me, I am using 4 pairs:

Long Trainings on the asphalt:        Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Cross-country trainings (Long and short):        ASICS Gel-Lahar

Short and intervals trainings:           ASICS Gel-Speed Star 2

Racing shoes:           Mizuno Wave Musha 2

I am used to run with both ASICS and Mizuno. I like them both for different reasons and functions. My Speed Star was my transitional shoe towards barefoot running shoes. They served me very well and they still got a bunch of kms inside them. Even though, I like them, I will probably completely switch to barefoot from now on. The Wave Musha 2 is awesome, it is likely that I will buy 1 more pair for the races and I will use my other pair for short trainings.

What about you ?

I started with Asics, but now I like Brooks.  I also have some Nike Frees.  I do want to try the Mizuno Wave Riders at some point.  I'm addicted to shoes

I just started running in February 2011, and I started out in Nike Free 5.0s, and I absolutely love them.  I am very sad they no longer make the 5.0s, but recently purchased the 3.0s.  I am hoping that was not a bad idea as I increase my mileage some, but I just love the way they feel.  My other pair are Saucony Kinvaras, which I also love.  I tend to wear the Kinvaras on my longer runs (I'm only up to about 7 mi. tops).  I didn't set out to become a mininmalist runner, but I really like the feel of lightweight shoes on my feet!

I may not be good, but I'm slow!

Currently running in Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11.  Will be investing in a pair of Asics Keyano 17s.

It's my goal to always have 2 pairs of Brooks Adrenaline and 1 pair of the Asics Keyanos on hand at any given point. Like I said before, I work at a running store on the weekends and I've tried on probably 40-60% of the shoes that are out there (I know we don't carry everything) and these are the only shoes that work for me. I really wish I could wear the Saucony Kinvara 2s. They're SUPER lightweight but I'm an underpronator so they are downright uncomfortable.

Long, Easy, and Recovery Runs - Saucony ProGrid Guide 4

    Speed/Tempo Work - Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11

    Races - Brooks Ravenna 3

I like the Guides because they have a little more room in the forefoot, which makes the longer and easier runs more comfortable.

The Adrenalines are lighter and faster than the Guides, which helps with my leg turnover and lift.

Ravennas are a little flatter and lighter than the Adrenalines, and are perfect for getting the best time I can on race days.

All of these shoes are on the stability side, and help support my slightly over-pronating feet (my feet are flat, like, pancake flat!)

Re: On what running shoes do you run ??

I actually liked the way the ProGrid Guide 4 fits but like you said, they tend to feel a tad bit "heavier" than the Adrenalines. Does anyone run in the Brooks Green Silence minimalist shoes? I've tried them on and they aren't completely terrible for an underpronator like myself, but I wonder how they hold up in short distance racing (5k...maybe a 10k) for runners with stability needs.

I haven't run a training run with anything but dust and/or sweat on my feet since mid-April.

For my last race, I put on my Vibram Bikilas and felt like superman!  ...at least until I found myself at the bottom of a LONG 50 degree steep hill.

So, JosephTree, are the soles of your feet just one big callus?  It certainly has to make running cheaper!  I wouldn't even know how to toughen my feet up to that kind of condition... how did you start?

Re: On what running shoes do you run ??

Terraness, no, they're not too calloused.  Lately I've been on nice smooth pavement a lot, so they're more like polished.  Barefoot running isn't so much about thick callous as it is about smooooooth form and just getting the feet, especially the plantar skin, accustomed to having a lot of contact with texture.  It take many miles of practice to get through the learning phase, and with 14 months runnign, I'm just getting to the point where I feel good for just about any surface short of crushed stone.  I started from "couch," which was an advantage in some respects, in that my first runs it was my lungs and legs that restricted my runs more than my feet.  The  major risk for new BF runners (and Minimalists even more so) is TMTS.  Guys who can run forever find it especially hard to scale back to the very low distances their feet will tolerate.

Another answer to the "how do you start" question is to say that I read everything I could find on "how to start."  Look over at The Barefoot University and the Barefoot Runners Society sites for great "101" level stuff.  There are also some terrific books that have come out since I started.  Look especially at the newest one by Barefoot Ken Bob.  There are also some excellent threads discussing BF running here in the archives.

Cheers!  ...(and enough thread hijacking, maybe!).

I used to get shin splints very bad when I played softball a few years ago, bad enough where I couldn't run the rest of the week. I purchased a pair of Asics 2150's last year, Asics 2160 this year, haven't had shin splints since.

I run in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11.  I had been using the Saucony ProGrid Guide 3 (maybe 4), but I bought the Brooks because they were a little lighter.  I like the Brooks shoes very much.  Also, I would not hesistate to wear the Saucony's again.

Re: On what running shoes do you run ??

I currently run all of my runs over 6 miles in my Addidas Supernova Sequence 3's.  I also have two pairs of Saucony Excursions that I will occasionally rotate in for my shorter runs. The two shoes are very different from each other. The Addidas provide the necessary support for the pounding over a lonrg run as they are stability shoes. The Sauconys are actually a neutral trail shoe but are very lightweight and much more breathable and I like to strap them on for short or tempo runs.
