I want this

Okay, I want this to be developed, and I'll let people who are much smarter than me develop it:

How about a GPS device integrated into an iPod that communicates with Google maps to track my run, in real time, so that when I decide to take my run up and go longer my wife can simply look at the computer screen, see where I'm at, and not be worried.

And the fact that it ties into google maps makes it easy to track my runs! How about it? Anyone?

;-)

Re: I want this
I've managed to connect my laptop to my GPS and have it track my position on a map in real time, so now you just need to have the GPS unit transmit the data via LewJ's suggestion to the computer at home. Piece of cake, right?

You really want someone tracking you?? I can't imagine much worse than that! Running is one of the few free times I get.

Exactly, why not take it further??? Have the GPS tie into your HRM so that if she needs you while you're out, she can just click a button on the home computer that will send a shock back, stopping you right in your tracks. Then she can come pick you up and take you shopping for shoes.

With that done, why limit it to running??? Make it so that if you go ANYWHERE she doesn't want you to go ... I'm sure you see what I'm getting at ... kind of like an Invisible Fence for husbands.

Not just somebody--I want it logged on the computer so I can view it, and see a historic map of my runs. We've already got the gps's on our wrists---why not expand their capabilities?

I bet we'll see this in 5 years or so.

Um.... Garmin's Forerunner series already lets you do this. You just have to plug it into the computer.

LMAO! Invisible fence for husbands... that is truly just a sad statement. Mostly because there are women out there who really do want to know every single move their significant other makes. Ugh. Don't fall for it guys!

Re: I want this
Have you heard of RFIDs? Radio Frequency Identification Devices. Many manufacturers put them in products so they can track them through the inventory chain from manufacturing plant to retail shelf (and beyond...). So the tracking technology does exist. It is just a matter of getting an RFID implanted beneath your skin, and then we'll know where you are at all times. Pleasant thought, eh?
