Hi. I've officially started the C25K training program this week and I'm quite shocked at how much I am enjoying it. Never having been a good runner, even as a child, I have always steered clear of this form of exercise. Lately though I had been looking at other people out running and thinking how exhilarating it would be to reach that level of fitness where running with a light, long stride appears effortless. Add to that three sisters determined for me to join them in entering a 6km charity run taking place in November and mix that with my goal to lose at least 5kg before Christmas and you have cooked up an 80kg, middle-aged Mum pounding the pavements in a very slow, red-faced, gasping for breath kind of way. As a reformed smoker my lungs couldn't cope with launching into Week 1 (60sec of jogging just wasn't physically possible). For a couple of weeks I started with 30sec jogging / 90sec walking for 20 mins, increasing that last week to 60sec jogging / 2mins walking for 30mins. Yesterday afternoon, in the rain, I completed my second workout of week 1 but for 30mins rather than 20. I am stretching out the workouts hoping that this will mean I can run the whole 6km of the run in November - yikes, that is such a scary thing to even type let alone do! I'm not going to focus on that end challenge rather just completing each workout and feeling the satisfaction that comes with improvement. It's an amazing feeling when I notice that I'm jogging a little faster and stronger and recovering quicker. Maybe running will turn out to be the healthy habit my addictive personality can thrive on. As for the weight loss, 78.5kg today.
I thought the same thing when I started the C25K program back in June. My parents even asked me to repeat what I said when I told them I was getting up EARLY in the morning and RUNNING! They couldn't believe it. LOL
Completed W9D1 on Wednesday and will run again tomorrow morning. (Ran 3.2 miles in 40 minutes) I couldn't run 60 seconds the first time I tried either. I run every other day and started some weight lifting and other cardio on off days which seemed to help me a lot. Realize some days will be better than others. Some days I just couldn't get my body moving enough or catch my breath and had to repeat days, but I could always do it the next time.
