I am going to say this in open forum, as this person is sending me pm's, why I don't know, if the same comment is in open forum. Whomever you are, as I stated to you, in my reply to what I feel is a very nasty comment, the fact that I am alive at this moment and ABLE to do this type of activity is something I cannot even begin to describe. You do not know what has happened to me or any other person here. You have the absolute ability to leave and not read our discussions. If you want all feel good accomplishments go to the threads of people that have been doing this all their life, that have not have cancer, weight problems, heart problems, asthma or any other problems that in the past omitted them from competing in the running, biking, triathlon events. We come here because it is a place where we can encourage others, like OURSELVES, to compete and complete. Quit finding us an irresistable group that you can troll and put down. Leave Troll!!

p.s. I cannot help but to notice NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS by this person, and he/she never speaks of any events upcoming or in the past. And, I sure cannot imagine being a child growing up in THAT household. YIKES!!

I think your all making up the runner high thing....  Like a certain Thomas I will not believe until I can experience this mythical experience on my own two feet!

In all seriousness - I am glad to hear everyone who has had this experience tell about it.  I believe I have come close while on the bike and will try to relax and flow during my next race this  labor day weekend!

I am riding metric century this weekend and hope everyone who is running has a smooth and easy run!

p.s. - I used to remember how to copy text to include in post but have forgotten - can someone give me the quick ten penny tutorial?

my Son doesn't have road Id but has medic alert that fits on shoe lace.

as for the 5k in Co.  I travel there on business every couple of months.  while I've not run a timed race, I have waddled 5K several times.  I just find it a little slower.  I don't run fast enough for the altitude difference to matter.  trying the same at 8K feet is different.  I was in Bogota, Columbia few years back and found my self huffing and puffing while walking up the stairs in the hotel...let alone when I tried to jog a bit on a sunday morning.

Hi All, I'm going to go off topic for just a sec and I hope you don't mind. I'm training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Team in Training for the Disneyland Tinkerbell Half Marathon on Jan 29, 2012. As a participant in Team in Training (TNT) I do fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). I have an extra easy way that I can possibly earn a $250 grant from the Refuel with Chocolate Milk campaign. I applied for the grant and it was accepted into the voting process, now I just need to gather the votes. I ask that you please vote for me once a day between today and Sept 15th...it just takes a couple of minutes and a couple of clicks. Simply do the following:

The top 5 vote earners will each win a $250 grant and mine will go directly to the LLS/TNT. I appreciate you time and help and PLEASE do feel free to forward/repost/copy to Facebook, Twitter, etc. to help me get the word out! Thanks again!!

    Instructions have changed slightly. Thanks!

I am also fundraising for the Komen Race for the Cure which I am running in October to support breast cancer research, treatment and education. Please consider contributing to this great cause or to the Leukemia  & Lymphoma Society (linked in signature block). You can donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation via my fundraising page at http://lubbock.info-komen.org/goto/beth_hardy

All contributions to either charity are 100% tax deductible! Thanks for your support!

So, I just got some awesome news today about my run last week. not only did i pr, but my pr time was better than i had thought it was! When I crossed i thought i read the clock to say 49:10, but it was raining and my glasses were foggy and full of raindrops. Official times were sent out today, and my time was 48:44! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! The 5k i did on July 4th was 49:26. So, if my math is correct (which it probably isn't), that means i beat my time by 42 seconds? Is that right??? SWEET!

Yes, there is a runners high, but OMG, yesterday was so brutal. Did a 16-mile long run. never got into a good pace, struggled throughout, legs locked up around mile 12 and I was going at a painful shuffle the rest of the way in. Ended up finishing more than a minute/mile slower than the 14 miles I did before.

The good news is it is done and I am one step closer to doing my marathon 2 October. I am proud that I was able to gut this one out. But if runs were all like this one I'd take up something less painful - like firewalking.

Hi all!  I've been checking in and reading posts pretty often but haven't posted in a while.  Still running so that is good :)  Most I have ever exercised and it has now been almost 9 months....yay!  I have a HM the first weekend of Oct I am training for.  Hoping to see a big improvement over my first and only HM time in Feb.  This week got to run with my niece a few times.  First time I've really ran with anybody.  Went with my daughters and husband a couple times but they went at their own pace and were soon out of sight.  While I was worried about holding her back sure did enjoy her company.  Time went by a lot faster and it seemed like less work too.  If you are just starting hang in there.  It does get better and is so worth the benefits.  I started at 54 so you all can sure do this.  Keep up the good work everybody.

Richard, Good day and bad days...I haven't figured out yet what the pattern is to make the difference :)   But you hung in there and completed it and good for you.  A marathon, one of my dreams and fears all at the same time.  Best of luck.  I know you will do great.

I haven't posted in awhile, but I'm still running.  Still repeating weeks of C25K.  I keep getting side tracked helping friends get started with the program.  I need to stop helping other people and start pushing myself or I'm never going to get through this program.

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

I also did my 16 mile long run in preparation for the Chicago Marathon on 10/9.  I had the RnR Chicago Half the week before.

I went and stayed at my mom's to run on the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor Trail.  I had originally planned to switch to the lakefront starting with 16 but this weekend was the Air & Water Show and not only do the planes overhead scare me but there were almost 2 million people on the lake over the weekend.

Instead I did my run in relative peace and tranquility.  On my fb page I put:

Who's bright idea was it to run a marathon anyway?!?

Saw 1 fawn, 9 cardinals, 1 snake, 8 squirrels, 3 chipmunks, 1 bluejay, 1 dove, 2 egrets, 1 great blue heron, 1 daddy long legs, 1 turkey buzzard, 1 carp, and 1 John. Oh and 1 huge ant that seemed to be moving faster than me!

John is my brother.  He's 5 years older than me and at 56 is tremendously faster.  I started out from his house right on the trail and he started an hour after me and finished before me!

I felt good the first 14 miles.  Then I think I hit a psychological wall because I'd never run further than 14 before.  I'd walked it for the Avon Walk but that was walking - slowly - socializing - eating - peeing at every rest stop every 2 miles!   The 16 miles took me 3 hours 34 minutes.

I did the first 10 miles at almost a 12 minute pace which is faster than I planned.  I was going to do a 13 minute training pace.  But then my last 2 miles were at a 16 minute pace. I started out later than I had planned so it was almost 10am when I finished and warmer than I anticipated.  I'd have run out of water too but when my wonderful brother zoomed by me, he handed me an extra bottle of water.  I was running with my 4-bottle fuel belt with 2 bottles of water and 2 Nuun waters.

I only have a 10 mile long run this coming weekend and then the next weekend is 18.  It scares me a little but I can't let myself be cowered.  I CAN DO IT!.   I signed up for the 20 mile Ready To Run for Sept 18th.  It isn't a race but a timed training run from CARA (the Chicago Area Running Association) with full support from the top of Lake Shore Drive to the bottom.  I signed up with the slowest group which is a 12 minute 5/1 group.  I don't think I can keep up with them but when I asked they said the Run/Walkers get to leave first in order to be able to finish while the course is still supported.  I think I can finish before noon that way.

    PR: 5k - 31:45, 4 mile - 45:15, 8k - 53.52, 10k - 1:09:57, 10 mile - 1:54:07, 10NM - 2:19:11, HM - 2:39:17, Marathon - 6:04:12
