Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Looks like several people are also training for their first half. Mine's on 10/2.

Good job, thintally, on the 8 miles! The longest I've run without walking breaks is 10K. I expect to take walking break during the half, at least at every water station if not more often.

Today was 7 miles, and I did it as planned, 8:2 run/walk ratio. It feels absurd walking after only running 8 minutes, but after 1:08, the 2 min walk break is welcome. I got a bit of a twinge in my left hamstring about 5 miles in - same side where I have the achilles tendonitis - but after a walk break it calmed down. I iced it after foam roller and stretching once I got home so it's fine now. The left achilles I ice regularly, plus do lots of calf roller and stretches, so it stays under control. I was happy to finish the run feeling like I could have done another mile, but I will definitely take the planned rest day tomorrow.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Yikes, I haven't posted on here in a week. I'm glad to see so many of you are running new distances. Congratulations. So, here are my runs for this past week:

Monday: 3 miles. Tough. High humidity and asthma was bothering me badly

Tuesday: 3.4 miles. Tough. Hot, humid and my body just wasn't feeling it.

Wednesday, took a much needed rest from all fitness activity.

Thursday: 6.36 the hard way. Overcast, humidy, light drizzle. We revisited the hills that are part of the Atlanta 13.1 course. They hurt so bad, but I took em. :-)

    Friday: No run, just cross-training

Saturday: 5.3 unintentionally. Wanted to do 4, but one of the girls on the running team is training for a full and had to do 5. Was a new neighborhood--read, sketchy--so I tagged along. Run was kind of tough. Humid and I couldn't quite get comfortable. I wanted to rip off my shirt and run in my sports bra.

Sunday: 9.12 miles (my longest ever). Along the tough, hilly course of the Atlanta 13.1. Today made the 3rd day I've revisited those monstrous hills in a week. I think we're in love. :-) Finished in 1:25:59 with an average pace of 9:26/mi. And I know all of this because I recently purchased the Nike+ iPod Sports kit! Yay. It's not a Garmin, but it gives my distance, pace and calories burned. It'll have to do for now. I'm just so glad to finally be able to track my stats.

I also used GU Roctane for the first time today. Wanted to experiment with it since I plan on using it for my half. It was tasty to me and REALLY helped. Made the last 3 miles a virtual breeze. I will definitely be stocking up on that stuff.

Great job, everyone. Keep it up.

40 min, 4 minutes longer than the longest run I had so far since completing the Couch 2 5K programme.

tomorrow a heat wave hits europe, 36°C until Friday or even the next weekend. I will probably do my first morning runs, I have been running after work until now (for 12 weeks)

NRDgirl and everyone else in hot-and-humid-land: you're working harder than the rest of us. My sister lives in Atlanta and when she comes to visit in CA loves the fact that she doesn't have to start her run by 6am to avoid the heat. We've been having a cool summer. I appreciate that it was maybe 65 and cloudy at 9am this morning. I wish the rest of you cooler temps when fall comes.

My last run was 3 miles in the rain!  I didn't realize how much fun it is to run in the rain but it's actually quite exhilirating.

Luckily it's the rainy season here on the East Coast of the US, but come winter it's gonna be tough to get out there again.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My last run was the Mora Half Marathon in Mora, MN last Saturday. The weather was cool and comfortable and my very first race went great. I surprised myself and ran a 2:12:10. I was never uncomfortable during the race so I hope I didn't leave too much out there on the course. Upon finishing, my wife took one look at my face and said something to the effect that it appeared now I am not only addicted to running, but I am addicted to racing. I can't argue with that.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Ran 3.79 miles this morning. Legs felt great after Saturday's long run of 10.5 miles. I went to the museum with my Dad yesterday so we did a lot of walking. I think it was good for me though. Helped me to stretch out my legs. The temps are feeling much better in the morning. I think it was around 70 degrees this morning with low humidity and cloud cover. Even had a nice breeze in the beginning.

@NRDGirl: Keep it up!  Once your half marathon training is complete, you'll be at a fitness peak for awhile, as long as you do some maintenance runs in between your races.  You're probably good for at least a November half.  How exciting is that!!!??

3 miles easy with the dog this morning.  Tonight is racquetball and core conditioning.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Ran a "5k" on part of my "hilly route" this afternoon. I didn't go 5k  race pace, but I wanted to go a bit faster than I had been as of late.  For a training run, this was an OK one. Because of my next race, the Crim 10 Mile (first race over 5k), I was very cautious in that once  I experienced the slightest bit of discomfort or a little pain, I  seemed to back off. If I was racing, I hope I would have just powered  through it. Maybe I should have done that anyway....

Even though the Crim 10 Mile is the lead-in to my Brooksie Way Half  Marathon in October, I still want to do well and really want to feel  good and healthy going into it. Ideally, I would do a moderate pace morning  run on Wednesday and a very light run on Thursday this week. Hopefully, I  will do it and not just talk or type about it.

hubby took the girls on a bike ride this evening so I stepped out for a run..had done 3miles and was passing back by my house and they were all back so my older daughter came running up beside me and asked to join so did mile 4 with her before we had to head in and get ready for bed, totally worth shortening my run to allow her to join me.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I decided to wear my new running shoes for walking for a day, then try running in them again to see if I just needed to get used to the feel of them.  Saturday DH and I went for a 3 mile bike ride but at our destination the back tire on my bike blew out!! so we ended up walking the 3 miles home.  It worked great to break in the new shoes though so there's the bright side.

On Sunday I finished my second Week 1 of Half-Marathon training with a 4 mile run.  It's the first time I've done 4 miles and I did not walk one single step!  WOOT WOOT!!  And my feet felt great in those new shoes.

I'll end up repeating week 2 of the training plan as well since I won't be able to get my Sunday long run in again this week, but my goal HM isn't until next spring so I have plenty of time.

RunningQueen... I have a sister that lives in Texas! It's a small town called Stephenville. She went to college down there, got engaged to a guy living there and just graduated! Did you schedule your massage yet? I took all weekend off from running (besides my 3.5 on Friday) but it didn't seem to help the sciatic nerve calm down. Ben Gay and I are now good friends. Yesterday I had a teambuilding day at work which was a workout in itself.. a day of climbing in and out of rope obstacles up in the air, zip lining and climbing a phone poll only to stand on the top and jump off. It was called "leap of faith" where my co-workers had ahold of rope and pulley system attached to a harness I was wearing. I then did my longest run ever last night - 4 miles! It's storming bad here today so good thing it's just a lifting day for me! Any good runs for you over the weekend?

@JaconCR... Your post about the cooking shows on the TV's at the gym makes me laugh...the comparison with AA meetings and beer commercials.lol... I actually like seeing them because even though I get my usual, wow, that looks really good. I also say to myself, that looks good but geez, how many hours I'd have to run to cover all those calories?! Don't get me wrong, I like running but eating what looks like a rolled up pizza sandwich from Pizza Hut just isn't worth the extra effort!

I like your micro-goals routine... my problem, I'm such a klutz on the treadmills, I'd fall off if I tried to do anything. Getting a drink while running is such a chore and I need 100% concentration or I'm off the back of the thing!
