Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

When I see a quote regarding pain being temporary, I think of the movie "The Replacements" - Keanu Reeves' character is doing the pep talk to the team and says:   "Pain Heals, Chicks Dig Scars, Glory... Lasts Forever".  That's not my motto, but it does come to mind when I've had a particularly rough workout and make it through.

I also like "Every Damn Day, Just Do It" from Nike.

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

EAA 5k had a LOT of people, the course including start/finish was narrow and had lots of bottlenecks, there were trucks trying to make deliveries at that early time of day; there were conventioneers walking where we were supposed to be running (both with and against the runners), and they ran out of some post-race refreshments before everyone finished... but on the plus side I did improve my time, and the coolest thing was the route went under the wing of the last flying B29 bomber (the kind that dropped the nuke on Japan).  I was told that a different group was organizing it this year and the person thought they did a very poor job; it was my first year running so I had no basis of comparison.

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

early spring begins my "beach butt, beach butt" mantra as I add in more hills after the icy winter.  When I feel like quiting because I'm just not feeling "it" l keep telling myself "1/2 a mile to go" until I complete that day's goal..kinda letting the quitter in me think I'll quit but really I know I won't but the mind game helps.   But my "everyday" running/fitness motto is "be fit or be fat".  I know nothing life changing or awe inspiring but it keeps my @$$ moving!

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

"Jennnnnayyyyyy.... I'm comin' ta get you, Jennaayyyyyyyyyyyy!" in my best Forrest Gump voice. Seriously, if you're down in the dumps on a run, do this, and you'll start laughing your butt off.

Other than that, I don't really have one, but I like to imagine what the people in cars going by are saying about the imbecile they see running in a ridiculous heat index, (or in the subfreezing temps, depending on the season). I think it's more productive to crack myself up rather than berate myself.

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

With all I've put my body through over the years, and with as good as I still feel, I am very fortunate. So, with that in mind, engraved on my Road I.D., along with the pertinent information, I have the line... "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do..."  from the Joe Walsh song "Life's Been Good To Me So Far"..

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

Since I'm a slow runner who focuses on distances for mud runs, my motto is:

Dead last finish is better than did not finish which is better than did not start.

It helps me remember that it doesn't matter whether I'm the fastest or best in this because I am actually out there doing it.

Re: Running Motto. What is yours?

We're we limited to just one motto?

There's the great saying Patrick Swayze left us from RoadHouse..."Pain Don't Hurt".  That comes in handy.

I've also been recently falling back on "Into Everyone's Life a Little Rain Must Fall" and also "What doesn't Kill Me Makes me stronger".  May seem trite and glib, but they do help keep the ego in check when I'm feeling sorry for myself when everything doesn't go according to plan.

Love that motto of dead last finish is better than did not finish which is better than did not start! Also, I also always tell myself; I may be slow but I'm lapping everyone on the couch!
