    Re: race results

Sounds fun - just out of curiosity which springfield?  there are several

I completed the Marine Corp Historic Half marathon this past sunday with a time of 2:57:09.  a whopping 40 sec faster than last year but still off my PR for the distance (and course) of 2:48:58.  I really like the first 8+ miles of this race and dislike the hostpital hill.  weather was 60's overcast for most part til sun peaked out.  I would have liked race better if I did not get blister on my left foot that pretty much hobbled me for last 3+ miles.  I was at time of 2 hours almost on the dot at the 10 mile point and took me 57 minutes to finish the last 3+ and 17 min to finish last mile.  I was disappointed when I took my shoe off that there was no blood, no open wound, just really sore spot on ball of my foot in line with big toe.  This was first time I've had such an occurance.  I usually get blister on my little toe so take precaution for any race etc over 5k to go ahead and just place bandage on that spot.

    Re: race results

I am familiar with that Springfield but lived much closer to the one in Illinois years back.  The next closest Springfield to me is the one in Virginia!

the worst part was being unable to put weight on the foot squarely - I ended up walking on outside edge and that in turn has led to some unwelcome twinges in the foot.  I will be off of running/walking for week or so as I let the foot heal...I will be on the bike for ride to work day friday.  I am really happy with my race til injury point.  I am definitely on the slow steady side and have been averaging around 12 min/mile for my past few races.

This was the first time I had something that really impacted my ability to move.  in past, I've had a toe that has tendency to blister - left over effects from frostbite years and years ago I think.  I usually pretreat (wrap in tape, Band-Aid) and it is fine.  the only other time I have blistered the bottom of my foot was training in Karate on a gym floor - my home Dojo has indoor/outdoor carpet.  good luck with upcoming race(s) - I would do much better if I actually had a regular training schedule.  I am lucky if I get out and run/jog/walk twice a week.   The best thing I did for training was start to run longer than 5k races.  The longer races 8k's and 10k's really helped me get past the mental aspects of running a longer distance.  I think it would be hard to jump right into a 1/2 or full marathon without a intermediate step.    Signing up make me get out and train because knowing I have race on schedule is great motivator!

    Re: race results

Last Race was VB R&R 1/2 marathon - 2:57;09.   first time I have run down in VB.  Board walk finish was fun but crowded by time I got to the end.  I managed to keep my standard pace  (13:30) and am already looking forward to the next race.  This also was most people I have run with - its interesting when i still am dodging the crowd at the 10 Mile point.  I'm used to having plenty of room by that stage of a race...
