Hi, need some help. I have a friend who has been an inspiration/hero to a lot us. 18 months ago she started the C25K and since then has grown a love for running, inspired a lot of other people to try running and now even hosting her own C25K training program, but that is not all...she has currently lost 140lbs and is signed up to run her 1st 1/2 marathon at disney Oct 1. Trust me she has had a total transformation physcially and mentally. anyway here is my question...A group of us is going down to support her for her run. I really want to give her a "gift" when she completes the 1/2...does anyone have any ideas for a gift for her. She really means a lot to me and has totally inspired me in my own running ups and downs. Has anyone ever got a gift after a run that was totally awesome and wouldn't mind sharing some ideas. I had also thought about doing a write up for our local newspaper about her after the 1/2, mainly stating the same as I wrote here about how great she has done and how much of an inspiration / hero she is to me. would that be ok to do or not? Any ideas would be helpful and if anyone has ever done anything for you that you wouldn't mind sharing your story I would love to hear about it. Thanks so much for any ideas or help!!!!
It's great what your friend has accomplished and that she has a wonderful group of friends supporting her. What might be nice is a gift certificate for a sports massage. I had one recently to head off injury while training for my first 1/2 and it was great. If someone were to give me a certificate for another session, I would consider that a thoughful and generous gift. Regarding the newspaper article, you might want to get her permission before submitting it.

I love the idea about a write up in a local paper (I agree that you may want to get her permission depending on how you think she'd feel about it). If she likes jewelry there's a Pandora style charm with a 13.1 on it from Inspired Endurance (I think that's the site, you could google it to see). I love having things that are tangible reminders of milestones. Another idea would be for you and your friends to get something that she could use as a hanger for her 1/2 medal and decorate it with messages to her about her inspriation etc. That may seem a bit sappy to some, but again, sometimes it's nice to have something to look at that connects to your accomplishments and the support of the people who care about you.

Another jewelry site that has running/fitness inspired designes is thesilvermaple.com. You can even have the pendant custom-engraved with a short message or the date/time/location of her half.
