    Re: W5D3 - I did it!!!

Wow! Good job! I wish I would have seen this before I attempted week five. This is my third week on week 5. My first week I didn't make it on Day 1, so I tried again and did it. I made it on Day 2, and tried day 3 and got 8 minutes in and just didn't feel into it. So I tried to "set myself up for success" the next week. I spent two days on each of the days. I did great! Today was the first day I was going to do the 20 minutes. I was scared. I am also on vacation and found a track at a park to run outside. I haven't been running outside yet. I lasted 10 minutes. I am sort of disappointed but then again, I have never run 10 minutes in a row in my life! And i have come a long way in such a short amount of time. AND I am still running even while on vacation. I think that's the biggest success of the day! I am going again on Friday. Maybe I can try the "just 5 more minutes" approach.

    What is C25K?

This is my first post! I am 54 and just started running. I find myself bored at running after 10 or 15 min. I listen to my iPod music and podcast but it doesnt seem to help much. Any ideas?

I am trying to get to a half-marathonand eventually a full marathon. It is hard living in AZ and trying to get motivated to run when it is 90F in the morning.Besides just runningis there a better plan that can break the "routine"?

C25k = Couch to 5k. It's a planned running program you can download for your iPod or iPhone (or Droid). It trains you to run at least two miles at a time over a period of nine weeks using intervals of walking and running and then straight-out running. W5D3 is the first full-out run so it's a milestone. You can find out about the program online by googling c25k. After C25k, the same folks have a program B210k (Bridge to 10k) and there are a number of choices for half and full marathon training, all as either downloads or phone apps. You can read about them in the thread "After C25k..."

If you are already running ten and sometimes fifteen minutes at a time, you would want to start C25k somewhere around Week 4. Alternatively, you might want to look at Freeway to 10k which also uses intervals.

It won't be easy but it will be worth it!

Good for you!  I am at the 25 minutes straight and feel like I have hit a wall!  I appreciate the advice to tell yourself "Just 5 more minutes..."  I am a newbie (48 and never, ever thought I could do this!) any  advice from anyone out there on how to improve my time?  I am running at about a 15 minute mile and have my 1st 5K on September 25th.  Keep it up Jeannette, we're all pulling for you!

My C25K road to recovery has me doing W5D3 tonight.  I am nervous!  My injury hasn't complained too much so far, but I am afraid this might do it!  I'll know in 4 hours!!

    W5D3 - I did it!!!

    Bumpa-dee-bump !

First post here just to say that I DID IT 2 !

Ran it on the treadmill which is really not my personal favorite, but it's what I had access to during lunchtime at work.

It was tough but I blocked all cronometers from my view and just kept thinking: just 5 songs. Felt like I could go some more but heart rate was at 97%, so I decided to stop at the 20 minutes mark.

It's funny how I'm hating the treadmill and running much better (and faster) outside.

Thinking of running this again outside on Saturday and counting it as W6D1. Any thoughts?

I ran W5D3 for the second time tonight.  I ran it Tuesday on the treadmill, then ran it again tonight outside to make sure I could really do it.   YEAH ME!

    W5D3 - I did it!!!

    hey lori, congratulations!!

today i a lot better, too:

    5 min run

    3 min walk

    5 min run

    3 min walk

    4 min run (oops)

i started with an 8 min warm-up and ran inside on the treadmill (boring but allowed a more steady pace).

That's great! you must be feeling really good about that. I'm going back over the posts trying to get mentally prepared for my 5k. Don't know why this one is making me so tense but it's probably because I've had all day to wait; I'm running at 9 pm. I've run the course 3 times but never all the way through because I kept getting lost. I've run the distance about three times also so it's possible I could complete this race if I don't let my fears get the better of me.

Glad to hear you are all still out there running!
