Re: Starting C25K (again) next week (8-8-11)!!

Congratulations on starting again. This program is for your own pace. I know it says be running in 9 weeks. But sometimes things change and you have to do it at your own pace. I took a week off for injury and repeated 1 week, because I was worried about a 20 minute run at the end of week 5. I was able to do the 20 min run at the end of the second week 5. But at the end of week 6 I was not able to do the 25 minute run. My next training day I got 23 minutes in. But theI next training day I did the 25 minute run and felt like I could run further. Then The next traing day I ran 03.14 miles without stopping. My pace was considerably slower than I have been running. So take this at your own pace and dont push it and don't try to push through injuries. You don't have to finish this in 9 weeks. It's your program. Just don't give up and don't quit. Nothing wrong with starting over.   Keep running!!! :-)

Re: Starting C25K (again) next week (8-8-11)!!

    Hi everyone,

I have restarted the C25K. I started last November to prepare myself for my first 10K in June and then my 3rd time in a sprint triathlon in july. Let's just say I lost all discipline and determination by march of this year. I am happy to report though that after my triathlon at the end of July of this year ( I finished at 2hrs and 24min) I took a week off then started the C25k again. this time though I have the disci[line and determination to complete it. I am repeating W3 again because I am stuck on those 5 min runs. I'm glad to see that I am not the only one to do repeat of weeks.

Still here - just off grid for a little visiting family. Did W6D2 today - have had to slow myself down a bit on these longer runs. My body in general feels good - my breathing is still kind of labored. I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma when I was a kid. . . wondering if I need to have that reevaluated.

Or maybe I'm still just pretty out of shape  ; )

How's everyone else doing? I'm looking forward to my first 5K on the 25th!

Slowing down to get the longer distance is OK with me. Works. I think the key is that we keep running but Interval running is ok according to Galloway.

I'm still attempting to run the 28 mins but tomorrow morning "not a training day" i am going to try to run 2.75 miles straight. Got 2.43 in this morning before stopping to walk with a friend wh needs the encouragement.   Doing great aaj79 Keep it up.. it will come easier each time. Definitely watch the "asthma" situation. Check with your doctor and make sure you are ok to continue the runs.

Starting C25K (again) next week (8-8-11)!!

Hello Everyone!  I, too, am still around! I have been busy logging my exercise and food with myfitnesspal and I have to say, I LOVE IT!!!  I am still walking/running... however, I do have a question.

When people talk about slow jogging, what exactly does that look like?  Like most of you, I listen to music when I run/walk and I want to keep my steps with the beats per minute.  I don't know if that's too fast, however, it helps me focus on my breathing and pace.  I am still not running very far at one time, however, I am walking like a crazy woman!  I do about 7K twice a week, and at least 4-5 K every other day.  So, my workout times are between 45 minutes and an hour and 15 minutes.

I haven't given up on doing my 5K, as a matter of fact, I found one for Oct. 22nd here in my hometown that I want to do.  It's about 5 weeks before the one on Thanksgiving Day that I initially signed up for.  Are there many people who walk at least half of the race?  Will I stick out like a sore thumb if I do?  Crazy questions, but I am loving getting out either early morning or late in the evening.

I have lost about 7 lbs, and about 5 1/2 inches, so I must be doing something right!

I wish you all a great evening!

There are times in life when "I can't" becomes a dirty word. For me, that time is now!

I can do anything I set my mind to do.

I am strong beyond my own belief in myself.

I am loved beyond measure and without judgement or expectation by those who truly matter.

To all those who believe in me... Thank you!

To all those who doubt me... Sit back and watch!

To all those who want to join me... let's be friends!

    Hi everyone!

Just completed W7D1 out in the park - ran Endomondo and the Couch to 5K app. AND? I ran 3.16 miles in 26 minutes!

I need to run out but will check back in later this evening!

Starting C25K (again) next week (8-8-11)!!

So went out to Prospect Park for my 25 minute run. Told myself to keep it slow as I had such a successful treadmill run on Friday at a slower pace than I'm used to running (and I know from past experience that it's harder for me ro run outside than on the treadmill). Had Endomondo running in the background and was so excited when the coaching voice came over my music to tell me I'd run a mile in 8:24 minutes!

I did have to stop and walk for about a minute to catch my breath running uphill, so I'm hoping from now until the 25th I'll be in a better place conditioning-wise to avoid any walking at all on the 5K course.

Had originally set a 30 minute 5K goal for myself - but might try and aim for 24 now!

Hoping Endomondo isn't totally inaccurate and all my excitement of for naught.  : /

How is everyone doing? It's quiet around here these days!

Well - now I just feel like I'm talking to myself.

Did W7D2 yesterday on the treadmill. Kept it nice and slow and had no problems as I worked through it.

From now until the 5K on the 25th, I think I'll be pushing up the speed on the treadmill by 1/10 of a mile each time - which will put me at 5.3 at 1.5% incline - with one more outdoor run in the park this weekend.

Excited to see what my time looks like during the outdoor run - hopefully this time without any walking.

Hope all of you are doing well!

I'm still here.  I been repeating week 5 for the past couple of weeks.  So I really haven't progressed very much, but I feel myself getting stronger every time I run.  Tonights an off day, so I'll run again on Thursday.   At least an off day from running.  I have to be at my son's cross country meet at 4:30 (I get off work at 4:30, so that will be impossible), then off to another town about 20 miles away by 7:00 for his soccer game.  I'm not sure who will be more exhauseted him or me.  LOL

    Happy running.

I am new here. I have read every post and was excited that some of you are right where I am at.   Week 7 and struggling to get throught the 25 minutes.

I  joined a group that started c25K on about June 20th.  I did too.  Then life got busy and I slowed down and anyway I started back up and and posted the last week in Aug.  Then I went back to post 1st week of Sept and I my entry was the last post.  Everyone had graduated and moved on.  Now today I can't even find the thread.  They really ditched me.  LOL

Can I join?   I have looked at a lot of thread and I am interested in this one.   I notice you guys have got to know each other and give lots of advice and encouragement.  I like that.

Welcome dreamcatcher5, it's always great to have another person.

Well, I ran week 5 day 3 again tonight and even ran it outside.  The weather cooled off drastically so I decided to go for it.  It felt great.  During the entire run, I kept feeling, I can do this, instead of I'm not going to make it.  I'm so glad I went back and repeated the past few weeks.  I'm really pumped and ready to move on to week 6 and then on to the rest of the program.

Starting C25K (again) next week (8-8-11)!!

Thanks!  I am coming in late but I have been looking for a while and this blog feels good.

    Let me introduce myself:

I am a dreamer and in my mind I seem to be able to do anything, then reality sets in.  I am 62 and I just want to be healthy.  I am a mother of 5 children, grandma of 4.  I like to walk and do that almost daily.  I “dream” of running or at least jogging.  I “dream” of being skinning.  So far I have not lost any weight.  I am thinking I need to do more than just jog.  I am off the couch, but still in the kitchen.  LOL!!

Like others have said I moved through the program completing each day amazed at what I am doing.  I can remember when I jogged for 3 minutes for the first time and I thought I was going to die, but I did it.  Then came 5 minutes and my mind told me I couldn’t do it, then my competitive spirit kicked in and I DID  IT.  Then 10 minutes—I knew that was impossible, BUT I DID IT.

When I did the first 20 minutes I just wanted to quit.  I finally stopped looking at the time and set landmarks—“just jog to the next light post”, then the next one and finally I DID IT!

Here is where you guys all come in.  It is refreshing to read how you have repeated some of the days or weeks until you have got it down.  I have been telling myself I can’t do that.  And as a result, I am not having any fun.  This has become a chore I must do.  I have dreamed of running (jogging—even turtle jogging) and enjoying it and I am not.  I am enjoying the completion of each day, but not the actual run.

Today I did W7D1.  Once again I DID 25 minutes straight. It was far from being easy.  I do not think I can do 3 - 25 minute runs in a week.  So perhaps I should do some Intervals jogging and put walking into the runs and just stay on week 7 until it feels more comfortable.  Thanks for all the comments.  I learn from reading what you say.

Hi Dreamcatcher - welcome to the thread! I think you should repeat whatever feels necessary to enjoy what you're doing - lots of people do and it's always worked in their favor. Remember that your body is capable of amazing things - you're far enough along in the program to remember how hard those 90 second runs felt - and now look what you're running!

I JUST hit a point in which the running has started to become enjoyable (and not a task I've assigned myself)  and I'm about to set off for my W8D1 run in a few, so it's certainly taken a while. Nervous about today's run as I've spent the weekend indulging and expect my body to remind me that cigarettes and drinks don't make for good runs. My first 5K is a week from today - so this week = no alcohol, no cigarettes, and no unhealthy food. I want my body to have the chance to show off the past two months of training.

As for the weight thing - I haven't lost any either, which is kind of disappointing. I'm sure that my shape has changed a bit, but it's so hard to gauge that. I'd like to think since we'll soon be running 9 - 10 miles a week, that we might see some change at the scale soon, but alas - the change has to happen in the kitchen (and the bar, and the restaurant, and the office. . .), too.

Hope everyone's doing well! Will report back on my run later tonight.
