Angi - you can do this and I bet it will mean so much to your fiance.  You'll both be in my prayers.

4.25 miles tonight - and I felt like I could have gone farther.  Other than that 5 mile walk/run I did last week, this is my longest distance to date.  Obviously backpacking  up a mountain with all my gear is good cross training.

My last run was...how was yours?

@protometal: This is an awesome strategy. I find that when I keep a constant and steady pace, yes, I do get a lot of runners passing me by in the first 5 miles or so, but by the end, I pass just as many people (if not more) which is a huge confidence booster. And you feel SO much stronger... I swear I'm thinking "what? you can't be tired now! the race just started (at mile 9)" lol

My last run was...how was yours?

Ran a 5k distance yesterday on the treadmill and about 6.5 miles on Sunday. It was supposed to be an 8-miler but I started too late in the day, and quite frankly, I wanted to go home and watch football.

I've had to dial back on the miles because I've been feeling a little knee pain and my feet have been more sore than usual. There are a few things that I know I'm not doing. I haven't been to the gym to do any cross training or strength training in about a month. I'm also not stretching. So, I'm going to regroup this week and get back to the basics. If I kept pushing myself to finish the miles, I would've definitely injured myself before my first "competitive" half marathon.

My last run was...how was yours?

Ran a quick 2 miler on the treadmill last night to warm up my muscles and my joints for some much needed stretching and some lower body strength training. It did me some good. The slight knee pain and soreness I feel when walking down the stairs is gone!

Definitely spending some time in the gym while tapering before the race on the 15th. My body misses the gym.

My last run was...how was yours?

I wasn't feeling completely up to par yesterday so started off slowly on the treadmill, ended up running 45 min and was so close to 4 miles that I kept going and finished the distance.  Not bad for not feeling well

Great job at pushing through Oshcat!

Ran 5.55 miles outside this evening and felt great. Nice and cloudy weather but it was humid as can be! Can't wait for the right mix of cloudiness and low humidity.

Ran 14.5 miles today with about 300 other runners training for the Baltimore marathon and half marathon.  It was a lot of fun. Time for the slow taper. In the meantime, I'll increase my other forms of cardio and increase my strength training.

My last run was...how was yours?

Hello all. Long time, no talk.

I've been Triathlon training all summer. A lot of swimming and cycling as well as a lot of running. Some great, some good, and some not so good.

Friday Sept 16th I had a legendary run. It was the first really cool morning this season ( temp in the 50s ). I was so anxious to hit the road I barely took time to stretch. I intended to do a 10k training run but I felt so fresh at 6 mi that I had to keep running. I threw in part of a trail run. I had to stop because I was supposed to be working and lunch time was approaching. 8.5mi and I felt like I could have run forever. After that run, of course my next run was a disappointment. It was a difficult 10k (high effort and slow).

My next event is a Half Ironman Tri and I have just over four weeks to train. I have to get my mileage back up. I haven't run a Half Marathon since March.

Mine was yesterday and it was fantastic!  It was a local 5K and I set a PR by nearly a full 2 minutes!  I also won my age division (male, 45-49).  I've never done THAT before.  Anywho, posting good results in races always helps inspire me to continue moving onward.

    Happy Monday to everyone.

My last run was...how was yours?

My first half was yesterday and it was incredible!!!  I felt good the entire way through.  I was able to run the whole thing and only had to walk through water stations long enough to get the water down.  There were two good sized hills between miles 8 and 10 and I was very surprised to find that they didn't really bother me.  I told myself that I could walk them if I really had to but in the end I didn't need to.  I am so happy that I included hill training into my schedule each week.  I met a lot of new people and was able to really enjoy the scenery and the whole atmoshpehere.  I even turned my Ipod off a few times just to listen and take it all in.  Next time I know I can pick it up a little earlier than I did.  I was afraid of starting off to fast and then running out of gas at the end or on the hills.  But holding off in the beginning allowed me to make a strong finish.  The adreneline of race day really does help move you along!

I can not wait to do my next race!!
