Number 1.)  YUK!  Worn by someone trying to draw attention to themself.

Just way too gaudy for my liking.

Number 2.)  OK.............. If you're going to a formal hunting party.  Not for umpiring!

Number 3.)  In my opinion, the only appropriate shirt to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness.

I personally don't care for the Pink shirt.  This one has just the right amount of pink and still looks professional.

Number 4.)  WTF Manny!  Please tell me someone is NOT trying to pass this off as an umpire shirt!

I believe it as at Cooperstown. White under black is done by many college conferences, I don't like it but if the guy with the money says that's what you wear then there it is.

I have a problem with  umps who favor black.

First----if you are using "blue" in your handle on these boards---please change to "black."

Second-----when addressed during games; do we/should we address you as "HEY BLACK, time out please?"----instead of "HEY BLUE, time out please?"    "Black" just doesn't ring right!

Or fill in place of "black" any other color you prefer, or use,  other than "blue."

    Oh what slow boards beget!

    Frank!

The only softball organization I've seen that doesn't wear light blue or navy is USSSA, which wears red with navy slacks.

    (snip)

You should check out NSA or ISA -(or not)- White and Green respectively.

Personally, I don't care - whatever the organization wants, is fine with me... I've got more things to worry about.

I don't even by the cooler vs. hotter stuff.

I think I work in as hot and humid climate as most here and I honestly don't notice a difference between the darker and the lighter colors.

When it's 95F and 95%, it's still effin HOT whether I'm in Powder Blue or Black.....

I'll take a stab at it.  The umpires travel to the next city, obviously, by plane.  Their foot lockers, which contain all of their uniforms and equipment, are sent ahead via common carrier.  Occasionally, those foot lockers don't make it to their destination in a timely fashion.  When that happens, other arrangements have to be made.

I recall, several years ago, the lockers didn't make it to a game in Baltimore by game time.  The Orioles organization provided the umpires with some Orioles hats and jackets to wear for the game.  (It probably still didn't help them to win!)

You would think, that in a multii-billion dollar operation like MLB, that each club would be required to keep a small supply of umpire uniforms on hand for just such a situation.  It just goes to show, that even in professional baseball, the umpires are nothing more than an overlooked necessary evil.

We went to the ERA Sports equipment and asked their rep, how much it would cost to get pink uniforms with numbers and logos on it for special tribute to "Fight Cancer" programs and we were astonishingly told $135.00 per shirt.  Yikes.     TM
