And I thought this just happened with kids.

It appears to me that the PU was getting him outta there to clear his sightline as Molina was getting the catchers mask outta the way perhaps to prevent injury to his teammate coming from 3rd.
Time wounds all heels.....
It looked to me like Molina ran into the umpire and the Umpire was pushing him out of his way. The collision looks like it was instigated by Molina as he tried to get out of the way after grabbing the mask.
Why the heck was Molina picking up that mask? He's putting himself at risk for an interference call right there, not to mention cutting off the umpire's path to get into position. I bet the umpire had a few words with him the next half-inning.
I'm guessing Molina was picking up the mask so that it wouldn't affect Pujols' attempt at scoring. He was just helping out his teammate. But he did risk an interference call.
As for the contact between Molina and Timmons, I agree with Mark. It looks like Molina moved into Timmons, and Timmons pushed him out of the way so he could see the play.
Reminds me of a televised 2011 Williamsport LLWS game.
Forgot the the teams and principals involved---but here is what happened.
A baserunner on his way to 3rd base----a throw coming in to F5.
3rd base coach in a line with the bag and the baserunner's view, signalling his runner to slide.
3rd base umpire, in order to get himself in the best position possible to call out/safe----with both hands, shoved the coach, IMO---violently---out of the way.
No harm, no foul!!
Frank!
Saw the play and Molina was doing what he is supposed to do (clear bat and possibly the mask out of the way of the advancing runner) albeit doing it way too late in the play. PU had every right to push him out of way to get clear sightline to the play. Could INT be called? No , not in my opinion since he didnt interfere with the F2. just the position and vision of the umpire. I do agree with a previous post saying " Was having a word with him after the play". TM
Looked like a great play by all involved! I watched it a couple times.
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it! ![]()
