Craziest thing you've ever seen

I was on a run last week, it was very early in the morning and I was just running along, minding my own business- when some woman who lives down the street, who was out getting her newspaper- for some reason just flipped open her robe (all the way) and then tied it back down... i narrowly avoided crashing into a tree....
nonetheless- my question is what is the strangest/craziest thing you've ever witness while out on a run?

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
I think I saw her sister the a couple years ago on my morning run. She stepped out to get the newspaper and forgot to put on her robe. I don't think she expected to see someone out running that early.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
I guess I'm boring. The oddest thing I ever saw while I was running is the Northern Lights. I used to live in Fairbanks, AK, so it was a common sight when I ran outdoors in the winter.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
I sometimes run along the Portland waterfront at lunchtime. This is Portland, Oregon mind you, so a pretty good size city, and the path is right downtown - very park-like, but paved. Almost every time I run, I see a guy walking along the same riverfront path carrying a very heavy-looking bright yellow bag. He is always wearing olive green jeans, a yellow slicker, and a yellow fisherman's hat (whether it's 30 degrees out or 90, always the same outfit). He's fairly short, quite skinny, has a bushy mustache, and always looks like it's been a couple days since he shaved the rest of his face. His forearm muscles strain from the weight of the bag and he has to lean a bit with his other arm thrown out to the side. He walks for miles. He never smiles at anyone, never says hello, or anything. He has at least two different bags, same style, same color, just different material. I've been seeing him for years now and still don't know what's in the bag, where he's going, or where he's coming from. I've never asked, mainly because I'd like to figure it out on my own. But it's been six years now, and I'm no closer to solving the mystery than I was the first time I saw him.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
Not so much witnessed but just noticed.

Sometimes I run on a street near my neighborhood and I can't help but notice some of the liter by the road side. One thing I started noticing a lot of were empty cartons of odd/generic cold/allergy medicine followed by the whole blister pack sheet that was completely empty. Over the course of a 0.8 mile long street, I'd see 10-15 of these packs, minus the pills, and new ones every week. So every house I pass on my route I'm thinking to myself...is that where the meth lab is? You'd never imagine something like that in my neighborhood!

Three craziest things I've seen:

1: Guy riding bike with a parrot on his shoulder.

2. Guy riding his bike with a jack russel terrier in a baby carrier strapped to the his chest (with paws on the handlebars).

3. Guy running carrying a big bottle of laundry detergent in each hand.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
The other morning I ran by a neighbor's house and he was in the front yard with his dogs wearing nothing but his tightie whities. Weirder still, it wasn't like he was hiding in the shadows. He had the yard lit up with those halogen spotlights and was standing (basking?) in the glow. He didn't bother to duck for cover or anything, just stood there when I ran by. I tried to avert my eyes and choke back my laughter until I was out of hearing range.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
There is a woman I see on my route who does inline skating... nothing odd about that except that she is always wearing a skirt and stockings and a dressy blouse, and a helmet, and a grouchy expression. I see her every time I go to that park, just gliding along... scowling. Obviously the activity doesn't give her joy; maybe she has route fatigue, or skater's letdown?

Also, no matter what time I go I see the same dog walkers. Either they are on the trail for an entire day or we are all in the same rut.

Weird. Now that you mention it, last week during my hill repeats, I saw a woman sitting on her front porch smoking a cigarette and on her shoulder was a parrot.

chalkhorse - maybe this woman is on her way to work and hates her job?

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
Just thought of another that I've never seen anywhere else.

Think about most races you run, particularly smaller races. Usually they have course-workers telling you where to go right? Well what if the race was so small that there were only 21 runners and only 3 course workers? There aren't enough course workers to do that.

So, before the race, the race director decided to mark the course, but he wasn't really into paint due to the environmental damage it did.

Instead he went down to the local grocery store and got 3 five pound bags of flour. Yes flour. And he marked the course and the turns using flour.

It absolutely poured after he had marked the course, but the flour held up surprisingly well.

Today you couldn't do that...after all flour is a white powder. You'd have someone calling saying there is anthrax on the street.

Re: Craziest thing you've ever seen
There's a guy I see almost every time I do a morning run. He's riding a mountain bike, and always wears black shorts and a Columbus Crew t-shirt. What makes this guy 'odd' is that he rides the same 1 mile loop. Multiple times. For up to and hour. Am I the only one who finds this slightly odd???
