Re: DONUTS!
Whenever we travel the 2500 miles back to Michigan, our first stop is always Sweetwater's Donut Mill in Kalamazoo. Great stuff.

Donuts are great "reward" food.

Re: DONUTS!
Top Pot. Top Pot. Top Pot.

When I'm in Seattle (I live there much of the year)... some nights about 11p, the smell of donuts drifts across my part of downtown. Mmmmmm. It's wonderful, even if I don't eat them.

Alas, other nights the smell is more reminiscent of dead fish and kelp. Oh well.

If every night was donut night, then it wouldn't be special.

You mean the "Vanilla Donut Dream" that was featured in The Apprentice?

I did try it and was expecting to love it, but wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Good, but not great. Overpriced.

My fave donut place is Muncher's Bakery in Lawrence, KS. Another good one in that town is Joe's; someone once described their fresh hot glazed as "the tactical nukes of the gut-bomb world". Good cream-filled donuts and other pastries too.

Green - Oh my god...I'm originally from Lawrence (still have family there) and HAVE to vist Munchers whenever I go (most recently last month)...I used to take ballet lessons in the same strip where Munchers is now and would walk down there while waiting for my mom to pick me up.I also have fond memories of Joe's (is it still there?). There also used to be a good donut place on 23rd St (Linda's?).
Now my mouth is watering...

Re: DONUTS!
This is amazing to me. I can think of few foods less nutritious than donuts. Sugar, Transfats, more sugar. The consensus here is that red meat will kill you but donuts are ok!!

Are donuts considered vegetarian or vegan?

Re: DONUTS!
We have Mel-O-Creme donut shops here in Springfield, IL. Their glazed cake donuts are the best!! I can eat a dozen of 'em in one sitting.

No, no. There is no consensus about red meat within the context of this thread. We're all just jamming on donuts. Not as a way of life (ok, some people might view donuts as a way of life), but as a treat. Treats are ok in moderation.

If it helps, consider this thread to be a "blow off steam" thread that helps some of us balance out all the other threads that crash through CC each and every day. It helps us smile.

Today I learned that breast milk is, apparently, vegan. I would tie this into the decision regarding whether donuts are v or V (big V == vegan), but it would be in poor taste.

Or would it?

Re: DONUTS!
I have never really been a donut person. Ice cream is my weakness. However, not so long ago I tried a warm Krispy Kreme caramel donut. It was to die for.

Re: DONUTS!
I have to agree with Sr. Lopez-I live right down the street from the Top Pot on Capitol Hill in Seattle and it's terrific. Mmmm...and I don't even normally like donuts. But-after the Vancouver Marathon they had boxes of old fashioned donuts and they tasted awesome-I ate three.

Yo, WalkerRun, I'm an omnivore. A happy omnivore. And I made a huge spaghetti suace tonight with lovely hot Italian sausage, and last night a beef vindaloo to knock your socks off!

Not vegan, not Atkins. Hungry.

Dang, those meltaways are heaven on a plate. I haven't had them in ages, but they are sooooo good...all the more so because if you go at breakfast time on a weekend, you will have waited 45 minutes or so to be seated at the table where they plunk 'em down with the menus.

Re: DONUTS!
Oh, and on the subject of donuts...my family has always gone to the CT shore in the summer, and there's a place in Old Lyme...or East Lyme...down on Soundview...in one of the Lymes...

Anyhow, this place is only open on weekends, and they sell out of donuts by around 8 am. Nothing like a warm cinnamon-sugar donut from this place, I'm telling you! I don't even know the name of it (because I never got up early enough to do the donut run) but anyone in that area would know it if you described it.

Heheh. Ain't that the best? I basically never eat donuts either, but after that race I'll put away 5-6.

Living a block and a half from Joe's is one reason I used to weigh well over 200 pounds.
