I ran the Thunder Road Half Marathon Saturday and everything went well except for one thing--I could not find a place to turn my chip in at the end. I looked around for a while and even went as far to ask multiple staff/volunteers and no one could tell me where the turn-in location was. I was concerned about the charge for the chip since I felt like it wasn't obvious where to turn it in. Again, thank you so much for all of your hard work today- the experience was awesome!
I ran the 2011 Thunder Road Marathon and this was my first marathon, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The police officers did a phenomenal job controlling traffic for the runners.
Charlotte is gorgeous and the weather was in the upper 60's! Can't ask for more.
A staggered start would have prevented the bottleneck at the start that slowed my first 3 miles.
The first half of the course is great, you get to see some of Charlotte's most attractive neighborhoods, but the section through South Tryon, and Mint St. leaves much to be desired and had little to no spectators. This section should be removed and replaced with more uptown miles or more Dilworth and East Blvd. miles.
Water stops were well staffed and in the correct spots, and the volunteers were excellent. The spectators in NoDa and the Plaza area were great! Loved running through "the wall" in NoDa.
The finish line was uneventful. I did not see any volunteers or medical personnel there to ensure that runners were physically okay to leave the finish area.
I will be back! All in all, great event!
