I'm not a big fan of New Years resolutions, but I do like to reflect on the past year. As I look back I am proud of myself that I finnally completed the C25K and ran several 5k's and have my sights on a 10k. I will never forget how great it felt to see my then 4 year old daughter waiting for me as I crossed my first finish line. That feeling of accomplishment and the smile on her face keeps me going.
Please share and celebrate your highlights/accomplishments from 2011 and help inspire for an even greater 2012.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season.
Stephanie

Congratulations!! That is so awesome!!
I am so insanely happy to say that as of right now I've lost 51lbs!! I started the couch to 5k and am running 3 miles now!! I am doing my first 5K Run on New Years Day and I am so proud to even be able to do it!! And in order to keep me going I entered another 5K Race in May of 2012 and then I am hoping to do a 10K Race in September in my Hometown!!
I have not run in 9 years (since my sophomore year of High School) and at this time last year I probably couldn't even run for 60 seconds straight!
1/1/2012 - Very First 5K EVER!! - 5K Resolution Run - 34:01
Congratulations to all, you have much to be proud of!
Last year at this time I could barely run 1.5 minutes; this past weekend I ran for 1.5 hours. I had never run before, except freshman year gym class in high school. I started in Nov of 2010 using a program similar to Couch to 5k, ran/walked my first 5k in April, and have done 3 more 5k's plus a 10k since then. My long run last Sunday was 7 miles - a new milestone for me!
2013:
New Year's Color Run (5k) - 01/01/13
Oshkosh Half-Marathon - 04/21/13
Congratulations to ALL. I never ran in my life or was very active. My life consisted of work, work & work some more. Then share some great family time. Last year i started walking . I lost 40 + lbs. I then started getting serious and realized what I've been missing my whole life, Ran a few 5 & 10k's. Then I followed Hal Higdons Half Marathon novice program. Ran my first in April 2011. My time was 2:50 +. Completed another Sept 2011 in 2:28:00. Ran another in Oct 2011 in 2:18:00. Currently training to run Disney Jan 7th. Goal time 2:08:00. What a difference commitment and training & support make. If I can start at 58yr old ANYBODY CAN DO IT.

Okay, I’ll join the bragging. My profile: running for 3 years now, got started to see if I could run a marathon. Did that, struggled with IT band injury that I never thought would go away. Still run pretty low milage (15-20 MPW) and I don't consider myself a runner, but I might have to reconsider that given the goals that I reached in 2011.
2011 Goals/Accomplishments
Break 20 minute 5k (18:35)
Break 1:35 Half Marathon (1:34:34)
Break 4:00 in Marathon (3:48)
Run first trail race (Did 3: two 10 milers and one half marathon)
Bonus Unanticipated Goal: Run First Relay—Hood to Coast; time not important, it was a blast.
So it seems like I set the bar too low in 2011, I think my goals for 2012 are to run a trail marathon and an ultra.
My inspirational thought: You can accomplish more than you might think. Train with intensity, listen to your body, and most of all, have fun!
Thank you for the wonderful post Stephanie and congratulations on your many accomplishments. I wanted to share something that reminds us all of the emotions felt during a race and especially crossing the finish line. http://theyarecheeringforyourunningfree.blogspot.com/
I have been blessed with many medals and trophies this year, but the greatest achievement is sharing how running can assist in overcoming physical and mental challenges. I wish for everyone many healthy, happy and productive miles in the New Year!
I started running in August 2010 and ran my first marathon this year. Disappointed with my time (4:08) but proud to have done it.
For next year I'm planning at least 2 half and 2 full marathons.

And the dream race...
"Flying Pig Half Marathon" Cincinnati, OH (May 2013)
Just started any exercise on August 29. In September I started trying to run, a challenge! In November I ran/walked my first ever 5K. I've now lost 45 pounds and ready to RUN another 5k.
I'm now hooked on my better/healthier lifestyle and looking forward to 2012!

Its been an amazing year for me as well. I had an incident playing in a band on New Years a year back,
I just got weak and breathless, had to sit down for a while, it worried me so I gave in and saw my doctor...
was nothing horrible, i was overweight, high blood pressure, the usual 50ish couch potatoe
So... I started cycling, thru the spring and summer, and changed my diet, by October I rode my
first century. Next year I hope to do Cycle Oregon.
With the chilly weather setting in I decided to work on running and weights, as of today I've finished
5 weeks of the c25k, plan to run a formal 5K in Feb/Mar timeframe.
Have lost 40lbs, and feel great, and hope 2012 brings more of the same.
Best wishes in the new year!
I started running in 2009 and was happy to be able to run 1 mile without stopping. This year, I ran my first marathon and qualified for Boston (3:39:54). I am will be 56 next month. I also set a PR in half marathon this year at 1:38:22.
My plans for 2012 are to run the Boston Marathon and compete in a 70.3 Ironman Triathlon.
Managed to finish all the races I entered this year!
I feel biggest accomplishment is not wondering if I can finish a 1/2 marathon but now which one(s) do I want to do next year. Far cry from my start 4 years ago with a 45 min 5k.
I also rode my first century this year...now all I need to do is a tri!
Happy New Year to all

I got pregnant when I first came here and then started the c25k in August 2010. I still run 3 to 4 days a week ![]()
Congratulations Everybody! You are all so fierce! I feel so fortunate to be among you.
I turned 62 in January 2011 and never even considered I could run, just wished I could. After my daughter and a friend posted about C25k on fb and a second friend said I could do it, I gave it a try. That was the hardest part, getting started. Since May, I finished that, trained myself to 5k, ran a mud race, two trail races and a bunch of other 5ks, completed my first 10k and recovered from my first injury. I finally feel like a jogger. My goal this year is to run the Flying Pig HM, hopefully meet Stephanie there, and have fun this summer repeating those races that gave me such a hard time this year. Happy New Year to you all!

Running: Started 5/6/2011; Graduated C25k - 7/21/11; Graduated B210k - 11/24/11;
PRs: 5k - 36:42; 8k - 1:10; 4.15 m - 53.41; 10k - 1:18; HM - 2:56:31
I may be slow but I'm persistant.
Goals: 5k under 30 min.; HM under 2 hr.; AG award in the USAF HM! and one full marathon.
It won't be easy but it will be worth it!
I decided back in August that I was going to run a 5k for my 40th birthday on December 10th. I got two friends who are runners to committ to running with me. I couldn't find a local race (MN) on my birthday so my friends and I decided to make our own, unofficial race. The next day I severely sprained my ankle. I literally had done W1D1 and the next day was out for 2 months! In October I started the C25K again. THis is not my first attempt at the C25k, but this is so far my most successful.
Since October I have made it to W5D2. I am a 200+ pound runner and extremely slow. I have had a few shin issues along the way so my pace through the plan has not bothered me. I feel so much stronger with where I am at than I have in the past.
So back to my birthday race. Since we were making our own race, I decided to invite more people to join us. I sent out FB announcements and emails. One of my friend's suggested a starting and ending point along the Mississippi River in St. Paul with access to his condo lobby as a warming house for those who weren't running or had already finished. I made number that said Pam's 40th 5k run for everyone and participant medals/Christmas ornaments for everyone.
The day dawned the coldest of the season at 6 degrees with several inches of snow on the ground. 20 people braved the cold to run or walk the 5k route on a beautiful sunny December morning. My mom, both brothers, a niece, a nephew, and a bunch of my crazy friends all ran and walked it with me. One friend who has run 10 miles and half marathons stuck with me the whole way challenging me to run "light pole to next tree" and the like. (I was having too much fun talking to friends and enjoying the pretty mornign and kept forgetting to run my intervals!)
I didn't run the whole way, but I finished in less time that I had been doing on the treadmill and had so much fun. My sister in law, also not a runner, had so much fun that we are going to run a 5k again on New Year's Day. Again it will be one of our own making, but we are doing it nonetheless. That New Year's Day run should be W6D1. We'll see how it goes.
Happy New Year everyone and keep running!
