From a fun little website to help us prepare for the inevitable zombie apocalypse (http://prepare4zombies.com):
If that doesn't keep you moving, you must already be one of them!
Crawling is acceptable. Falling is acceptable. Puking is acceptable. Tears are acceptable. Pain is acceptable. Injury is acceptable. Quitting is unacceptable ! ~ Unknown
" You deserve what you settle for"
"For Them, For Her."
For Them = My Wife and Kids. I want to be here for them as long as I can
For Her = My Mom who passed away last year. All she ever wanted was for me to be healthy and happy.

"You only regret the runs you don't do." That's my phrase as I'm getting psyched to head out for a run on days when I'd rather not. While I'm running, it's less an actual motto, but the thought of all the people who aren't running at that moment, by choice or by disability, that keeps me moving forward. Running hills, my mantra is, "I love these hills. They make me strong." Corny, yes, but keeps me focused on why I have to run them and I can actually fool myself into not dreading hill workouts. But my most often used motto is simply, "I HAVE to run."
This is your time to run, get everything out before the time is over
-everything that went wrong in my day that I couldn't
control, change, or fix I day dream about and tell myself I couldn't
do that but I can run faster and stronger right now/ I also like to
day dream about all the things I could do if... and run out my dreams
I have a few..."My goal is to beat yours" by Dathan Ritzenhein, a great quote from a pretty good runner. My other favorite quote comes in handy when I need a little motivation, "I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain" - Henry Rollins.
"A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions"...Confucius
While I don't have a true motto, the thing I try to remind myself when training or racing is this:
Whether first or last, 5k or marathon, you never know who is watching. Somewhere out there someone is watching you and wanting to be like you. I am reminded of this every time I am going down a road and someone waves or says hello. Even when some car full of teens yells 'run forest run' I am reminded of this. It is right in front of me when during a race, kids are lining the sides of the streets looking for a high five. Whether it is jealousy of some or providing inspiration to others, someone is looking up to you and wants to do what you are doing.
Side note: regarding the kids lining the side of the street, take the time to give them a high five. Not only will you make their day, but you'll be surprised how good it makes you feel too!

laziness is the bane of runners, if you make a plan you must stick to it, otherwise your will to run will becomes compromised and you will break on race day. If you want to maintain the right to step to the line, you must put 100% into every step of every workout. Therefore, my motto is: "Earn the right"
