Fighting The Binge

Hi,
I run 20mpw at present.

I eat a 400cal of ceral in the morning
then 550cal for lunch (spread out over the day)
then I'll eat upto 900cal for dinner

I don't eat desert or anything.

Then later on at night, between 8-10, I can't stop myself.
It's really unhealthy.
Last week, I decided to stop eating choclate, and that's helped (one week clean

But for instance, last night, after dinner, I had a bowl of pasta, 5 biscuits, 50cal each, and then 2 slices of toast.

As an exception, I also ate desert after dinner.

How can I stop this?
Last year I was recommended to a psychologist because I use to binge eat and then preform excessive exercise, luckily, I got ill and stopped running for a couple of months and the binges went away.

I am 17, M, 158lbs. I have held up against choclate and started binging less.

I have put 3 pounds on since the new year, but have also taken up weight training too. I also started running more often, so the gain could be party muscle (i hope).

Any input welcome.
Thanks
Dan

Re: Fighting The Binge
hiya, ok im a female so it might be sightly different for me but i read your post and releated it to a tee.
I am 5 7 and 135ibs (nowhere near my ideal weight!) but i manage to eat really healthy for breakfast ,lunch and dinner and then in the evening, but in theevening i just wamna eat 9 it end up eating tonnes of fruit instead!!!) i just wanna eat. I run about 45 miles per week, and do kickboxing, yoga, pilates, swim, weight train (2-3 X WEEK) in addition to this but i still seam to put on weight.

the only thing i can say is perhaps your body holds on to water - i know mine does. ALso am i right in thinking that 8/9 pieces of fruit a day is too much sugar??

Maybe your weight gain is muscle - do you clothes still fit the same? are they looser? Mine are looser round the waist but tighter on the hips and hamstinrgs - weird. Like wise i tried therapy - i went to a hypnoist for cravings / / body image etc but it unfortuantely didn't work with my attitudde to food

I guess what i'm trying to say is see how you feel now you've build muscle and how your clothes fit. like u, i coud use help but this is your post, so i'll be interested in seeing what others advise and hopefully this will help you .

Re: Fighting The Binge
this is just from what I've read in fitness magazines, but perhaps you should try to eat more in the first part of the day. even w/out the binges you still take in a more calories during dinner than at either lunch or breakfast. i've read that bigger breakfasts and lunches followed by a lighter dinner help you stop overeating in the evening. the theory is that you are more likely to overeat in the evening if your body doesnt feel satisfied throughout the day. its part of the breakfast is the most important meal of the day thing.

Also, maybe you just need to eat more. it looks like you are at around 2000 cal. maybe you're eating so much in the evening because you need to the calories.

You should probably speak with a nutritionist.

it looks like to me that you aren't eating enough. you should be eating way more during the day. when i want to lose weight i eat like you eat (about1800 cal. a day) and you are a teenage boy who runs. try eating more during the day. have protien with breakfast instead of just cereal. also maybe cut your dinner in half. eat half at normal dinner time and half later in the evening.

something that works for me is planning a "second dinner" for right before bed. i eat a banana with cottage cheese and weetabix or something like that. something relatively light but filling and balanced. when i know that i have a snack waiting on me, i stick to the snack and do less mindless eating.

Re: Fighting The Binge
You need to eat more meat and fat to help keep you full and that will keep you from going on a binge.

I never snack. I do mean never. I eat enough at dinner to keep me full until breakfast, etc.

you posted the 11pints of water. maybe there is something related to your hunger pangs and thirst. cuz i don't know what to make of it based on your threads. maybe there's something medically wrong.

Re: Fighting The Binge
I agree with CSuzette (gasp!). I am by no means an advocate of lo-carb, but most runners would do a lot better eating more "real" food that has some substance to it. This is coming from a guy that runs a ton.

eat eggs with breakfast. meat is great for you. hefty sandwiches for lunch. poultry/fish with dinner. of course you need carbs, but dont skip on the protein & fat. milk & cereal sucks for breakfast - thatll hold you over like 8 minutes. put olive oil on your pasta and toss it with some ground turkey or beef and mix it with green vegetables. pizza is good too. you need to eat like an athlete, not a dieting weakling. I also agree on eating 3 squares a day. skip the whole "I eat 9 times a day to keep my energy up". If you have to eat very often, your diet isnt balanced. go balance it.

Re: Fighting The Binge
Your not eating enough. You should be getting something to eat every 2-3hrs. This will keep you blood sugar levels constant and you won't get those cravings.

Also being only 17 yrs old and running and weight training you should probably be adding easily another 1000 calories to you diet without any weight gain.

You should be on the SEE food diet. Any food you see you should eat it.

Re: Fighting The Binge
At 6 times a day. Eat a substantial breakfast. If you are full at dinner time you won't eat as much.

Re: Fighting The Binge
when u get urges to eat sugar, or simple carbs, force urself to stuff your face with something better like, baby carrots with hummus, or handfuls of almonds, or an apple with PB, or orange juice, or bananas or oatmeal or..u get the drift: solid food- it'll fill u up and not make u even want to think of food for awhile. like someone mentioned, im thinking you need to eat more earlier in the day. man, EAT LUNCH. 500 calorie lunches? u have to pre-fuel for your daily energy, eat more earlier, breakfast too! and not just sugar-laden cereal. try adding fruits, eggs, whole grains. make sure you're getting enough protein too, like someone else mentioned.
