Snacks Anyone??

So - what is everyone's favorite "healthy" snack? I am trying to shed 5 lbs (isn't everyone?) and i find that I definately need snacks between meals -- any suggestions on what kind of snacks stave off those hunger pains and hold you over until the next meal?

Re: Snacks Anyone??
a handful of nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans, etc) along with...

banana
or
apple
or
orange
or
yogurt
or
carrots
etc

Also, drink a glass of water 10 minutes before you are going to snack. By that time, you may not be hungry.

Or, brush your teeth and then maybe you won't want to eat.

I find a little protein in my snack works wonders:

Carrots/celery and hummus

Hard boiled egg

Yogurt (w/ cereal mixed in if you like)

String cheese

Cottage cheese with grape tomatoes

I like the nuts and yogurt option ... and a banana is always nice!!!

I also like a number of different cereals, dry in a baggie, with a yogurt ... Oatmeal Squares are a current favorite and I've always loved Cracklin' Oat Bran ... yummy and crunchy ...

I like to "crack and spit" sunflower seeds. You could eat them all day and still starve to death.

Re: Snacks Anyone??
A lot of times I will make a sandwich for lunch and eat 1/2 with some fruit or veggies and save the other half as a snack.

Other ideas:

Small baked potato w/cottage cheese
1/2 PB sandwich on whole grain bread
Celery sticks filled with peanut butter
Cup of homemade trail mix: nuts, dried cereal, dried fruit
Cup of soup w/whole grain crackers
Small bowl of beans and rice
Small salad
Cheese and whole grain crackers
Homemade whole grain fruit-nut muffins
1/2 banana wrapped in taco-size whole wheat tortilla w/PB
tuna salad w/whole grain crackers (about 1/2 can?)
Boca patty
Smoothie
Veggies w/plain yogurt dip (season however you like: ranch dressing, hot sauce, salsa, salt & pepper, lemon, etc...

Mixed nuts. Olives. Cheese. Triple Whopper with Cheese and Mega-Size Fries. Haven't tried that last one, yet, but it sounds really healthy.
