intense sugar cravings!!!

Lately ive been having intense sugar cravings. I am not really a "sweet" person, but lately I can't get my hands on enough especially because I'm denying myself most of it. I am very self conscious and I usually eat about 10-20 grams of refined sugar a day. I am afraid that if I give into these cravings I will gain a lot of weight. I have a BMI of 20.7

Any advice????

Re: intense sugar cravings!!!
A few years ago I did the low fat thing and constantly craved simple carbs. Now, if I crave them I look at my eating.

You could not be eating enough (as mentioned).

You also might want to make sure you aren't eating too many (simple) carbs. NEVER eat carbs alone - add some protein and fat. It helps with saitey and it's a good thing anyway for maintaining energy levels (blood sugar).

Make sure you aren't overtired - getting enough sleep and not overtraining.

Perhaps you have an insulin spike low blood sugar thing going on?

So maybe the sugar gives you a short term jolt until the low sugar and / or low serotonin level sets in creating another sugar craving cycle.

Eating sugar can lead to just craving more sugar.

Re: intense sugar cravings!!!
just dont eat refined sugars, eat natural sugars, from fruits. dates and prunes have lots of sugar, as do most dried fruits. pop in one or two and it always does the trick for me. i also enjoy oranges, cantaloupe, blueberries...etc. sugar doesnt make u gain weight. things with sugar are just usually caloric, and eating more calories than u need will make u gain weight. plus, refined sugars always make u just want to eat more and more and more, and that also leads to weight-gain, because its not filling like whole foods, and makes u want to keep eating.

Maybe post a sample of a day and activity. I have bad cravings too. I heard not a good balance of carbs/protein/fat can lead to that. Also make sure to eat every few hours that means 3 meals/snacks and of course enough calories.

To understand better we would need to know you're height/weight/age, activity level, calorific intake and, ideally, a sample of your daily menu.

Well, I would quit the gums/mint and energy bars all of which could cause the cravings. Try nuts or low fat yogurt or fresh fruit instead.

Eat frequently, at least 6 times a day. You can satisfy your cravings by taking some high carb food or drinks immediately after a run.

Re: intense sugar cravings!!!
I think you are worrying a little much.

Eating regularly helps prevent cravings as does eating fatty foods.

Trying eating healthy snacks at 3-4 hour intervals during the day. Fruit, nuts, low fat yogurt (watch out for sugar and high-fructose corn syrup).

Keep some healthy trail mix with you and grab a handful whenever you get a craving.
