Re: Exhuastion
I know you asked more specifically about your diet, but I would like to address your training. From my experience, I have learned that the best way to increases mileage is gradually. What I mean by gradual is not going from 30 mpw to 70-80 mpw over a few months, but going from 30 mpw to 40-50 mpw consistantly by the next year and then 60-70 mpw consistently the following year, and so on. You shouldn't be feeling fatigued. Your paces shouldn't be slower. You workouts and races should be great.

Good luck!

Most do this over time so that 100 feels like 40 used to feel--patience is key.

I think she needs more protein. Her muscles are probably being severly damaged without the chance to repair.

I'm not sure that it matters, except that it would make iron deficiency much less likely. A blood test is a good idea though.

Re: Exhuastion
The way to find out if it's overtraining or not, is to take a
couple of days off and see if your body comes back.

Simple. Just do it.

how did your doc diagnose you with candida? I actually have already been diagnosed as gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant by a gastroenterologist about 2 years ago. now I really don't eat gluten pretty much ever (except beer...I'm in college!). but lately I've been feeling inexplicably crappy again...real tired, constant sore throat, more headaches, bad digestion, night sweats, etc, despite the fact that I eat really healthy and clean, almost no chemical/crappy food or anything. I googled candida symptoms and now I'm thinking maybe I should look into that. what kind of doctor did you see?

Hi! I hope you get this response... Sorry it took me so long to check back. I went to my regular PC doc and we couldn?t figure out what I had at first. She decided to run lab tests on a stool sample to check for parasites and bacteria and both those were negative. There was a high yeast content, though. Usually Candida is diagnosed through symptoms, I think.

I feel so much better being on the Candida diet. You might want to give it a try for a few weeks and see if you feel better. It?s not easy -- absolutely NO carbs or sweet foods of any kind. The diet also forbids mushrooms and foods that tend to attact molds. You can download a list of the allowed foods at:

Good luck!

Re: Exhuastion
raz,

I'm no doctor, and don't know every detail of your position, but I'll offer my two cents. Overtraining is always a possibility, but it sounds like you've been reasonable with your build up. I'd get a full blood work done if you haven't - that never hurts anyway. One thing did stick out. You are 5'7" and 112? Is that right? That is CRAZY skinny. Elite runners aren't nearly that light. For reference, I'm your size and weigh 20 pounds more, and I run competitively. I think you gotta put on some mass. I don't know what that comes out to on the BMI scale, but I'm sure its unequivocally underweight. Low body weight can hurt performance just as much as high body weight. Eat up. Don't think about it, just eat what you feel like. The doc I'm sure will also be able to shed some light on things. Keep us posted.

Re: Exhuastion
I think the fact that you are male makes you even more underweight than if we thought you were female. Please see a doctor ASAP and gain some weight.

You weigh less than mny petite wife!

Take 2 days off. On the second day, go to IHOP and eat all the pancakes, butter and maple syrup you can. Then eat some more. For lunch, eat a bacon double cheeseburger with fries. Then eat a Big Mac and a sundae. For dinner, try some ribs with a side of baked beans and cole slaw. for desert, fudge brownies. finish the day off by drinking 6 - 10 Guinness beers.

On the third day, you won't feel like running.

There you go, more food and 3 days off which is exactly what you need.

Makes me kind of wish I were underweight!

Did you discuss your weight or diet with the doctor?

Re: Exhuastion
A few things that scare me about this post and yes it maybe health issues other then an ed but why are you still running when you feel this way? Your body is telling you something is wrong. Also though ed issues give you the sam stomach issues and can cause damage. You posted you don't want to bulk up. Your a male at 112 at 5'7 you need to gain healthy weight. I have a lot of stomach problems and understand the not wanting to eat but you have to think of it as medicine.Good luck on your tests. I have been through all of them and there stressful but needed. Meds can help along with dietary changes. Also if you have ed issues its ok to get help its needed to win a hard battle.

RazLeopard-

Do you feel fine first thing in the morning, but then get bloated/uncomfortable in the afternoon after eating? I posted earlier that it could be an overgrowth of Candida yeast in your intestines (we all have some Candida in our gut but it can be thrown off-balance and then cause bloating, gas, digestive problems, fatigue - a whole bunch of symptoms). I was diagnosed a couple of months ago and after changing my diet, I feel SO much better. I?m also on supplements to combat the yeast. Just a thought -- maybe worth checking out.
