In talking with the woman that I am dating, I mentioned taking tomorrow off and going down to the marathon to hang out and have a good day. So we're headed down tomorrow morning with pretty much no idea what we are doing or what to expect. Anyone have any observations/must-sees/things to avoid/etc.? Anything at all that might help would be greatly appreciated, from traffic advice, to which T-lines to avoid, to the bars and restaurants that are a must alonmg the route. Thanks in advice, guys.
How was it in person? Where were you standing? Now that you've done it, what would you recommend? I watched the start on tv and some on my computer (I hate when I have to spend a few hours in the office on a holiday). Someday I am going to watch in person. I hope you had fun!
It was a blast! Took the T into enemore Square, got there about 11am or so, and found a spot at the 1 mile-to-go mark, right on the rail. Super easy, and a great spot to watch the race from. Also, nice restaurant/bar right there as well, a little high-end, but very nice and comfortable. A couple of things that I would have done different, however: I would have shown up about an hour earlier (to join in the festivities a bit more), and then I would have ducked back into the restaurant for lunch and a couple of drinks at about 1 pm rather than 2 pm, like we did: turned around and the Sox game had just gotten out. There was no getting into any restaurant that had a bar, not in Kenmore Square, at least. Never mind trying to find a bathroom without a line you had to wait in for 20 minutes. I would also have liked to walked the course just a little bit more, but all-in-all, it was a damn good time, and I'd definately like to go back.
