The half marathon was excellent!! I enjoyed the course--lots of variety and nice rolling hills. Definitely recommend to anyone, whether it's your first half or your tenth.
Very nice race for the first time hosting a half marathon. All runners received a nice jacket and medal. Nice course and scenic. I would suggest adding Gatorade to the aid stations, better quality paper on the numbers as they tended to pull through the pins with the drizzle and wind, and start the 5k separate from the half as there is quite a bottleneck the first two miles.
A great course with nice views. Snack and tech shirt were very nice. Would suggest starting 5K or 1/2 marathon first to eliminate the congestion in the beginning. Plan to do it again next year.
Good race for 1 st time half marathon, need a litlle more space before the first turn and I would prefer to not run in sand for finish (yea I know its called Run to the Beach but we could stop before the sand). I pulled a calf muscle in the sand. I did set my personal best for half at 1:42:53.
This was my first 5K EVER and I thought it was a wonderful experience! Check in was easy and I found the course to be beautiful and challenging! I enjoyed having the finish be on the beach! I would certainly recommend this race to a friend and I plan to return to do it again! Also, days before the race I had questions and recieved a very nice personal response....it really made me feel welcomed! Great volunteer staff! Kudos to a great event!
Wonderful race! The course was beautiful, loved the jacket! Trail sections slowed me down a bit but were worth it for the variety and scenery. Awards were unique and much better than plaque or trophy. Results and awards prompt and efficient. Consider starting 5K later to relieve congestion. Would appreciate Gatorade-type drink at water stops and Power gel (any brand) after 9-10 miles
Great scenery and love the jacket! A fun race; suggest a few portos on the course and starting the 5K and walkers 30 minutes after the halfers.
With having to make a potty stop behind a school, the bottlenecks in the first 2 miles and the gun start I added a full 10 minutes to my half time from April 1, 2012. Would rather see a chip start vs. a split time. Also, most of the road running was done with traffic as opposed to against it. That was a bit scary.
Great race! I would definitely do it again next year. However, I'd suggest starting the 5K and 1/2 marathon at different times to avoid the craziness at the starting line and first turn.
The stretch along the beach was fun, especially for a finish and the fact that it had rained. Wouldn't want to run that section if it was dry and the sand were soft. My biggest gripe was that the majority of the race seemed to be through the parking lot! Since the half-marathon left the park, why not have both races do so earlier in the race instead of looping the parking lot?
Enjoyed myself thoroughly despite the chilly drizzle! The number bibs didn't survive the rain very well. I had to pin mine back on 3 times after it ripped. I also echo other's comments about the congested start, running with traffic (cars whizzing by at 50 MPH while I'm on the right shoulder - I never do that) and no toilets on the course. However, I do appreciate the hard work that goes into organizing these races and expect to return again next year.
Fun race. The bids did not hold up too well to the elements.
Fun race considering the elements. Good post race food. Would recommend paper over plastic cups for the water stops. The plastic cups just just cracked and broke and you lost most of your water unless you grabbed them from the top.
Loved the 1/2 marathon! Just a few suggestions that have already been made. Separate starts for the 5k and 1/2. Fortunately it was cool so the lack of gatorade was not an issue, but there should be some on the course. Great volunteers. Unique awards, and a nice metal. Will consider traveling from Pittsburgh again, next year!
I liked the varied terrain and scenery. The mass start was a little chaotic. Overall, I would recommend this a great break from yet another street race.
