Hi ! I admit I am slow. I have accepted that fact, at least for now. I confess I am running 11-11:30 min miles(i know;-cringing..but for now this is where I am at!) I did run 11 miles on my best day, and some 10's and 9's but honestly I feel like I will be crawling on the 13th!!!.On hotter days I basically DIE and am even slower. I have felt SO discouraged(another topic) that I have contemplated not running this Weekend's 1/2 that I have tried to train for.(but I am cheap and I paid so I am probably going) Despite my best efforts, I have that feeling of a test I have not studied for, as my last few weeks of runs have STUNK!... but going for it anyway.Yesterday I was shocked to notice that all must finish in3 hours!!! Now I know this is a breeze for most, or at least many..but there must be some slow runners out there??? I know I am not that slow(13 something min/miles) but pretty close to it!!! If I have a bad day I am toast.
Doesn't that cutoff seem a little harsh? or is that standard??? Maybe I am naive.. Just curious. Thanks.(i used to run 10 min miles and I thought that was bad.. now THOSE WERE THE DAYS! )
I don't think you have anything to worry about. It sounds like you could easily do 12 minute miles and come in under 2:40. 3:00 to 3:30 is a pretty typical cutoff time for a half.

Mind over matter! The crowd and adrenaline will help you along on the day so I honestly wouldnt worry about it. Best of luck for the race and make sure you let us know how it goes!

well, I guess i could say I did a little better than I thought, with 2 27. I know I should be happy because I was doubting making 2 30; part of me just wished I pushed a little harder. I must say i felt better trained and stronger during this race ironically than I did 6-7 yrs ago(i forget!) but prob because I did that one in 2 12 . I just hope I can try to improve my speed now! Thanks for the encouragement and best of luck in your running!
Congrats!!! The first time is automatically a PR and now you have one! Don't look back, only forward to the next one. Now you have figured out all the dynamics of the race and will be much more relaxed the next time.
Did you ever think you would run a half marathon? Now you have so celebrate and enjoy!!!
Thanks (linuscatch). Although i wish I could, I can't lie..this was my second HM;but the other was many years , pounds, and problems ago..so this felt like my first!! I really think I just wanted to prove to myself I could do it and hopefully things will only go up from here.Already I am thinking about next year!
