countryrunner1 Great to see you've reached step #2. Now worrying about your Marathon time instead of just finishing. Can't wait until I'm at that point. Great job.

Terranss A crazy business travel schedule has kept me from posting lately. However I read the post as much as possible. I have learned one thing that never changes on this thread, and that is "YOU THE MAN" . Congrats on a great race.

Swebb310 Sat sounded like a special day. Welcome!!!!!!!!!

My last run was...how was yours?

I ran with my friend Lori twice last week.   Both were slightly under 3 miles and she did better on Sat. than she did on Weds.  She will be in fine shape for our 5k on 6/2.  She was also talked into signing up for a 10k the following weekend, so I sent her a link to the Hal Higdon Novice 10k training plan.  We have just enough weeks to get thru the plan

I however am the crazy one, I sent in my registration for a half-marathon on 9/23!  This time though I already made up my mind that if I suffer a setback in my training and can't run, I will train to walk it.

Now I just need to get out of this funk I've been feeling all week.  Hopefully it's not raining when I get out of work.

My last run was...how was yours?

Congrats to everyone on your recent races!

I think the best way out of a funk is to go for a run. Today was good: 5.5 miles, longest run since my injury and very little pain.

I've been back and forth about whether I should switch to the 5K  for my race this Saturday, but I think I can do the 10K. It's not that much longer than 5.5. I will try not to worry about my time, forget about my original PR goals and just enjoy the race.

Went to the chiropractor after my run today - I think this is the way out. If he can fix my horribly rotated pelvis that should really help my running. He said it was amazing I could even function and run with my pelvis as rotated as it is. My left hip drops when I run - if I run on a sunny morning when I can see my shadow I see what the chiro and PT are talking about. But he didn't suggest I stop running, a big relief. I just won't try to crank up the miles or do another race until after enough chiro and strengthening.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I ran a strong 3.5 mile run between the rain showers this morning. I pushed extra hard on the long uphill mile that ends my course. Unfortunately, the head cold that struck every member of my family is haunting me and has begun to settle in my chest. Boo!

    NHLA Such impressive mileage!

ozziemo Cool on the trail run/love. Thanks Ericd3043 for the Fartlek explanation!

runslowdan Congratulations on the 5K under 30!!

linuscatch Nice job on that 10 mile trail run.

Webpro11 Shucks, bummer about the IT band

Terranss Thanks, buddy! I'm SO excited and nervous about the race. I'm hoping to knock off 12 minutes from the last 10K! I'm FAR from my $ goal, but I wrote to the Ellen Show, so we'll see... lol

countryrunner1 Definitely! Re: "...be at a point in my running where I'm worried about getting a marathon PR vs. simply finishing."

AlfNiner Nice job! Go get that hot bath.

az1414 WOW! What a great race and a wonderful weekend. Thank you for the amazing run down of your half!

Snerb Best of luck on your 10K!!!

OshCat Congrats on signing up for the 1/2 and (((hugs))) to help get you out of the "funk"

Dobrobuck Thanks. I have 19 days..too early to taper? Its good to know how your body responds to the demands of races. Especially for us "older" runners.

Julia66 Good job on the 5.5 but, big bummer about the pelvic rotation.

My last run was...how was yours?

ozziemo, Terranss, and AfNinerX - sounds like a great race. Loved  the race report.  Congrats to you all!

jmsab3 - I'm with you -what's up with all these hills?  Nice race time in my book, though.

Ericd3043 -  you did a 5K on Sat and a HM on Sunday?  I can commiserate on the 10-12 hour workdays but you're going to school too!  Amazing.

Runwickedfastdan - woohoo on the sub 30:00 5K.  excellent!

WebPro11 - sorry about your half but you did theright thing.  Better to take it easy a few days now than to be out of commission for weeks later.  (much easier said than done)

    countryrunner1 - a PR is a PR.  I can't even imagine finishing a marathon.  Nice!

az1414 - great finish!  nice to have a helpful niece.

OshCat - good luck getting out of the funk  -  and on your upcoming races.

    Julia66 - ouch - I can't imagine runnng with a rotated pelvis.  Happy healing!

MelodyLea - nice run.  Good luck on your upcoming 10K. Colds stink.  Hopefully yours will vanish.  I swear by Zicam - cold symptons are definitely lesser for me but only if I start the zinc as soon as I feel thecold  comingon.  Feel better soon!

Sunday's long run wasn't.  I was so sluggish I only eked out 6  miles - hit some kind of a wall around mile 5 but I pushed through to home - perhaps 4 hours sleep wasn't quite enough.  This morning I had a twinge in my left Achilles which was actually the least of my worries.  I got to about 1.25+ miles and my stomach said "go home!  now!!" so I turned around and ran home .  aaah well - running and I have hit a rocky patch but  I'm sure we'll make up soon.

    Happy running!

My last run was...how was yours?

Last week was to be a light week, with lower mileage. But I had a little runner's knee goingon, and it ended up being a no-run week. I've been a little frustrated! I did some cross training, and some leg excercises to strengthen different muscles. Last two times I've had a problem like this, it was after running on concrete in trainers. Don't know whether it's the surface or the shoes. Hmm.

Anyway, back out last night.Did a 1 mile warmup jog and then 2.5 miles at tempo pace, with bursts at race pace. Not a training run at all, just a run - because sometimes it Just. Feels. GOOD!

My last run was...how was yours?

Julia66 - hopefully your chiro will be able to help you straighten out your pelvis.  I know I needed some adjustment in that area too while he was working on my back.  Now I need to remember to do the exercises he gave me to keep everything strong....

Melody I have the feeling you are going to surpass your time goal for your 10k.  I'm sure you'll do other races during the year so you'll have more opportunities to raise money for the critters.

I did 3 miles on my own last night so my pace was a bit faster than when I run with my friend.  Oldplodder I agree "because some times it just. feels. good"  and Yes, it did a LOT to lift the funk, I feel much better now.

Tonight is another slower run with my friend with some time for weights beforehand.  It's time to get back on a training plan so I keep myself accountable.  I'm helping my friend train for her 10k so I'm starting with that plan, but in a couple of weeks when it kind of meets up with the beginning of the Half plan I'll switch to following that one for myself.

My last run was...how was yours?

Running Club night was rained out last night for the second week in a row, so I did my own strength exercises/treadmill workout here and was happy about it. Did a  5k tempo run in 23:35, then ran a small speed ladder workout . 3 x 200 @ 10 mph, then 2 x 400 @10 mph, then 2 x 800 @ 9 mph, then back down to 2 x 400 @ 10 mph. With the interval jogs, totaled a 10k for the whole workout, and finished just under 46 minutes. Felt the way I want to feel after a good workout.

az14 -- very nice sounding weekend for yourself. Great Work!!

RunfasterDan.... Put those PR targets out there and then go break then into pieces!!! Congrats to you!!

Julia.... Good Luck if you decide to go with the 10k.....maybe take a couple Advil or pain relievers b4 the race??? Listen to the body as you go along.

Melody... Best wishes vs. that cold.

Regarding the terminologies:   Fartleks and pickups are similar. A lot of people mix up repeats with intervals. When it comes to heart rates, there are zones, and some call them levels. I don't know exactly what the differences are, if there are any. As if these aren't confusing enough, then I have to figure out how to load music into my new mp3 headset!!

Happy running, all, however you train.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Debm2011 Thanks buddy. This is a strange little chest cold-thing. No nasal at all. But from everything I've read, I should NOT run with a chest cold. Waaa
I hope your rough patch smooths out!

OldPlodder I feel your frustration, but sounds like you found a good run in spite of the knee.

OshCat Thanks so much for the vote of confidence! I've got all of you behind me.

My last run was...how was yours?

MelodyLea - As you know, you shouldn't run with a chest cold.  A head cold, sure, but not with a chest cold.

RunningFasterDan - The weather could have been better for the CrazyLegs, eh?  Excellent job on your PR, keep it going.

In preparation for my 10k on Saturday, my 'easy' three turned out to be a very looooooong three miles.  It's amazing how your body reacts when you're over tired.  We're in the middle of a huge project at work that's requiring WAY too many hours, rest is hard to come by for the past two weeks.  I'm hoping I can get some good rest and a full night of sleep on Friday before the 10k on Saturday morning.

Cheers all, and good luck to those running in any events this weekend.

My last run was...how was yours?

A beautiful morning run, 4.25 miles at 10:00 pace. Along the creek and through the woods. As the sun is rising earlier, I don't see the same wildlife as a month ago, but it IS nice to run in daylight!
