My last run was...how was yours?

Was is the great weather or the new shoes?? The speedwork Wednesday (9:26 mile, fast for me)?

Whatever, this morning I decided to go ahead and do the 10K fun run at my local running store, and I got a PR! Totally not expecting it, how did I manage that when I wasn't even trying? This was a "guess your time" run with no watches. So I figured I might be a minute faster than the 10K 2 weeks ago since it was cloudy and not as warm. I did think the people I was pacing with during the 2nd half of the race were going faster than they thought (they had put down 1:10 as their guesses), but I didn't realize how much faster. Finished the race feeling great - what a wonderful feeling!

MelodyLea: waiting for your race report - hope it went well. But even if you missed your PR, you can always try again and you never know what might happen.

OldCoyote and linus: hope the Bolder Boulder goes well tomorrow.

My last run was...how was yours?

I did it!! The 10K race I've been training all winter for is done.  My time stunk, (1:13 which was SLOWER than last year) but, I raised $1310 for the critters and I finished feeling strong. The race was especially difficult because of the warm temperatures (upper 70's), and that one steep hill at mile 5 kicked my butt. I felt stronger than last year and I gave it ALL I had!

ALatteCrazy Hi, nice to see you.

JosephTree That is SO cool about the parrot! Thanks for taking care of him/her.
Hope the "test" went well with your shoes.

    jmsab23 Nice miles!

apeppel Nice job on the "go for it" 5K and 9.07

Old Coyote LOVE the new handle!! Yay

Terranss Thanks! I'm a little disappointed in my time, but I DID give it everything I had. The heat and the hills got me. My fund raising goals FAR exceeded my hopes though!! Yay.

6xchampsfan I sure hope you can get the issue with your calves straightened out. It sounds like the new Dr. may be the key.

Debm2011 Thanks so much! Dang, lets get those calves working, girl.

linuscatch Thank you! Beautiful imagery you gave us with the ocean and the calm.

Ogr44 NHLA and degregorius Nice job!!

Julia66 Thanks, Julia! That is awesome about your 10K fun run! What a boost.

Ran the 1st leg of the Med City Marathon relay today.  Ran 6.4 miles (per MapMyRun) or 6.55 (per marathon officials)  in 50:30. Either way, it was enjoyable.  May do the Minneapolis 13.1 next Sunday.

    MelodyLea,

Great work on the 10K regardless of what your time was.  You've done a fine thing and the fact of the matter is, you FINISHED!  Both the critters and you benefited.  Keep on keeping on!  BTW, I enjoyed your website!

My last run was...how was yours?

Great races to all!  Melody  - don't fret over your time.  You finished - after being sick for so long - and raised tons of money for the critters.  Good work

NHLA - thanks.  I had forgotten about that one from my ankle rehab 7 years ago.  I'll definitely be doing my ABC's this weekend.  I couldn't get into the groove  with the tai chi class I took last summer but my dr. did suggest yoga so that's next.

OldCoyote (love the new handle) and linuscatch - good luck tomorrow.

My last "run" was a power hike through the woods with the dog this afternoon.  Short, but I did get my heart rate up.  Yesterday's hike was a little longer.  I'm hoping we don't get the rain that might be coming so I can fit another hike in tomorrow after the Memorial Day parade.

    Be well my friends.

MelodyLea Amazing job. Most people would of not raced after how sick you've been. Way to tough it out. Loved your web site. You are very talented.

As for me you all are making me feel guilty. I have a little over two weeks before I offically kick my training into high gear with my 16 week Chicago Marathon training program. Congratulations To ALL. You have posted some very good results.

I've just been taking it easy. Doing slow and easy base mileage and some biking.

My last run was...how was yours?

What a beautiful morning gor a run!  Valley Forge Park was washed by thunderstorms through the night and was all shining and fresh washed in the morning sun.  I got in a gentle 9 miles of barefoot running in before it started to get too hot. I was still sweat drenched by the time I finished, but not unhappy.  Tis the season for it.

Update on the parrot I found last week.  The admin folk of the Park brought it to a shelter locally.  Someone will take a sweet bird home, I don't doubt.

MelodyLea! Great job raising funds - and awareness! Be proud of you - and on top of it sounds like you had a great time! Heat sucks... it kicked my booty during my first leg of the SoCal Ragnar (which was 9 miles, heh). I don't usually have any trouble with heat but as it was about 95 and there was little to no shade from mile 2 on, I know the feeling, it just saps your energy! In a training run I usually slow down to accomodate but in a race I remain miserable until I cross the finish lol.

My last run was...how was yours?

4 miles tonight after 10+ hour day at work. Positive splits up to top time of 6:52/m for the final mile. Finished in 28:43. But I need to get in some distances. I haven't been as faithful as I should be. I may try a 10k a few towns over from here this Sat., or wait and run the local 5k on the 9th - I'm pre-registered for that one.

My wife's uncle, age 80, ran his first 5k in Newington, CT last weekend. Finished 1st in his age group (only 2 of them), but his time was under 29 minutes!!! His son-in-law and 2 grandchildren ran the race with him. He beat his son-in-law!!

Old Coyote - I love the name change. Now go stalk those PRs.

Ozziemo - you know what they say about people who talk to themselves.......

DebM and 6x - best wishes to you both (and all others trying to heal).

Melody - Great run for someone just off the DL. If the time wasn't what you hoped for, think of the positive mental step you took for yourself. Wonderful recovery.

Terranss - Well, the Celtics made it. The Heat will be a much more difficult team than the 76ers, though.

Melodylea congratulations on your 10k! You are awesome raising all that money for the critters, nice job on both.

apepple good job on the relay. I bet it was alot of fun

NHLA I'll give that a try. Thx

DebM nice job getting out there.

Josephtree 9 miles barefoot, I couldnt even imagine. Nice.

jmsab23 Thx for the wellwishes. Please tell your wife's uncle congrats for me. That is just awesome and very inspiring! Beating his son in law is just iceing on the cake. Great story, thx for sharing as I will be telling this to my brother in law who keeps telling me he would run too if  he wasn't so much older than me. He's 61.

    OldCoyote liking the new handle.

As for me just doing my thing with the exercising and counting the days. Happy Memorial Day everyone. Thank a vet tomorrow and maybe even do what I do from time to time and pick up a check for one at a resturant on the way out. I look around for the guys wearing a vet hat. It just a small way to say thanks and a nice surprise when they go to pay their bill. I hope it puts  a smile on their face. We owe them alot. Never forget them. Keep running everyone.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Terranss - calling me out for the 7mile 4000 ft elev gain trail run?  i'm 75% certain i'll do it. Lets do a training run or two up there…to get a feel for the reduced O2.

ozziemo - it's all good; get any exercise you can; get some kills on the sand court!

julia66 - nice job hitting that PR.

melodylea - congrats on finishing and raising some serious coin!!  I'm sure you'll be running another 10k before 1year from now…right?

apeppel - nice 6.5 run time! Good luck on the 13.1 on sunday if you do it!

re: my scientific test. I call it a success. My shins were a good sore after charging up the 5mile trail on thurs, proving to me that the trail itself lead to the soreness and not the trail shoes i wondered about. So i'll be keeping them and i look forward to doing that trail more often. I also plan to invest in some compression socks.

I rested fri and pretty much rested saturday while the family and i hiked about 2.5 miles. Today, sort of in tune with Higdon's Half Marathond plan, i put in a solid 12.0 miles; 1hr48min, and i felt strong! which is great news, b/c after all my 3 Halfs, i nose-dived after mile 10, feeling miserable for the last 3miles. I think im def getting stronger and cant wait to slam my Fontana Half next saturday!

Debm2011 Thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I know I reached deep on those last two miles. I gave it my all...just was'nt much in the tank at that point. #  Your hikes in the woods sound so nice. I felt a little sad leaving my dog/training coach at home for the race yesterday. lol

Webpro11 THANK YOU for your support AND donation! Together, (with y'all) I've raised $1350 for the old abandoned dogs and homeless cats! I'm excited for you and the marathon!

JosephTree 9 barefoot miles!! <~ Wow! Thanks again for helping the little parrot.

ALatteCrazy Thank you. I should have tried to fit in a few hot afternoon runs before the race, but I got this darned cold/cough thing 10 days out. But, you're right, its done and the funds raised are just WONDERFUL! I cant wait to split the total between the two charities. I like to wait about a week, just in case a few more dollars come in. I know that the cat shelter (FieldHaven Feline Shelter) is in the midst of "kitten season" so they will be especially grateful for extra donations. The other shelter (Old Dog Haven) is my favorite shelter, but they sure need a website overhaul! Anyone know of a good designer who wants to take on a free project?

jmsab23 That is amazing about your wife's uncle and thank you.

6xchampsfan Thanks, buddy! That is a fantastic tip about picking up the check for a Vet. Bravo!

AlfNiner Thanks! Yes, I'll be doing the same 10K next year and raising money for the animals. It makes it easier for every one (I've found) to do an annual fundraiser at the same time of year rather than several throughout the year. I am running a half in September, but not raising money for that one...just plan to plod along happily and finish. That is awesome for you about feeling strong and ready to kick some behind on your half!

You are ALL such a great group of running buddies and an awesome support team! Thank you!!!
