This was my first half marathon and I was extremely impressed by how well organized the event was and the food, water, goodies, and support we received. There were bagels, fruit, cookies, and water provided before/after the race, as well as the famous Helvetia Tavern burgers afterwards.  Plenty of water/aid stations were provided along the course with lots of volunteers cheering us all along the way. I have never had any desire to walk or run a half marathon before, but found myself planning to sign up for the Helvetia Half again next year before I even finished the race!!! Many thanks to the organizers, sponsors, staff, and volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success! Well done!!!!

Helvetia is one of the best organized races we have run. We have done it now for about 5 years. Having it start and end at the stadium makes it particularly pleasant---lots of room to move around before and after the race and plenty of seating area to watch fellow racers come over the finish line. It's very inviting to hang around and enjoy a beer and a free hamburger. The course is beautiful. The only negative is the gravel road towards the end. It's not easy to run on, especially at a time when the legs are getting tired. The only other negative is that people do not get lined up at the beginning in order of pace time. Even though I'm a slow runner,  I generally have to weave around a lot of walkers who are 2 and 3 abreast for at least the first mile.

My second half marathon (I did Rock'n'Roll in May) and it was great!  Very beautiful course, well organized, perfect placement of water/HEED stops, and of course, the famous Helvetia burger at the finish!  The volunteers were helpful and upbeat - all in all, a very good event!  I'll be back next year!

Loved the event overall.  The aid stations were very well placed, and well supplied.

My only feedback is to separate the runners and walkers.  As a slower runner, it was difficult to get around the walkers for the first mile or so.  I didn't want to get in the way of faster runners, but ended up getting slowed down by walkers that were 4-5 people wide.

The event was fantastic and run very well.  My only complaint is that the shirts, despite being of high quality, smelled very bad.  When they put the decal on, they must have burnt the fabric.  It's so bad, I can't wear it.  That's a bummer because it fits great and is a good T shirt for running otherwise.

What a well run event, but, oh my, the hills!

The run was beautiful and what a pleasure to run by farms, meadows, fields of grain and grazing animals as well as a great group of people who gave their dogs an opportunity to see the race. The running organizers did an excellent job, from starting the race on time to having enthusiastic volunteers, copious water stations and timely results. Kudos to Paula and her team, your careful planning and knowledge of what runners need showed in every facet of the race(s). Now, Paula and Co., we need to talk about the hills...........

This was my first time at this event and I thought it was great. I enjoyed the course, even the gravel, and the burger afterward. My only complaint is that the shirts smell horrible. I even soaked them (my husband did the race, too) in vinegar/warm water for hours and then washed them in Gain detergent and they still smell. Disappointed that we can't wear them.

The event was well organized with plenty of cheerful supporters along the race route...The only disappointment for me was to find out that 10K finishers do not receive medals...A friend tried to stop me before I embarrased myself but it was too late...I'm encouraged now to train for the Half-Marathon now just to get a medal next year...Thanks to all of those who helped to make this a wonderful event.

Helvetia is my favorite half, it is extremely well run, it is challenging but not too extreme, it is a nice run trough the countryside with very minimal traffic and the support staff and the spectators are very positive.  I am looking forward to running next year.

The event was great, well orginized. I was a walker on the 10K.

The race resultsleft me a little cold, since I was put in with all the runners.

What about a separate coler for walkers in 10K / 1/2 marathon, so the results will show it.

Good event! Only one comment. Plastic cups sucked to try and run and drink from If you tried to squeeze into a V to drink from, they broke and poured out side. Paper ones were SO much better!

It was fun just my 2 cents worth

As always, the event was well organized. I was disappointed to see plastice cups and no garbage cans. It was somewhat difficult to have to maneuver around cups thrown on the roadway. I have read other complaints about the smell of the shirts. I agree!!! Has anyone figured out how to get it out? I love the color and fit. Was looking forward to wearing it but not sure I will be able to.

Fun yet challenging course.  Yeah, the gravel part was hard, but it's those little challenges that make the race worthwhile.  Was not a fan of the plastic cups, hard to drink out of, and just annoying to run around at the water stations.  My biggest complaint was leaving the parking lot.  I had no problem getting in but getting out was a completely different story.  The parking line didn't move for 45 minutes, I think they forgot about the back half of the parking lot.  Luckily, after 1200, we were allowed to leave out of the back, but up until that time, no one moved an inch.  Unfortunate, since all other aspects of the race were very well organized.  Oh, and the burger at the end was yummy.

Re: Helvetia Half & Widmer 10K Reviews

This is my 3rd year running the half.  It's a great course and the support is wonderful.  While it is inconvenient to step over all the plastic cups and with the environment in mind, it would be great if all runners/walkers could be encouraged to bring their own hydration devices and "refill" on the course if needed.  My only comment on the start of the race would be to have the walkers start behind a start "balloon" the way the runners start behind their pace balloon.  It's always a little tough at the start dodging the walkers who started too far up front to keep pace with those around them.  I'll be back next year!  Thanks for a great event!  Oh, and the burger was yummy!
