Saw a clip on ESPN this morning.
Batter bunts, pitcher dives for the ball and from his knees throws wide to F3.
F3 stretches for the throw and BU rules him off the bag and the runner safe (replay appears to show F3 had his foot on the bag when he caught the throw).
R2 continues running and rounds 3rd heading for the plate.
F3 is arguing with the BU.
F2 signals to the PU for Time and the PU grants Time!!!
R2 scores and the PU sends him back to 3rd because Time was called.
Instant replay makes this call obvious! First basemen made a nice play, taken away. The a run scores and is taken away! This umpire team used up their human error portion of the monthly allotment!
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!
From another website, apparently U3 had granted F5 Time when he requested it, and at the time it was granted, R2 was not making any attempt at advancing home. If you watch the video again, you'll see F5 raising his arms and looking in F5's direction as R2 suddenly breaks for home, and then he raises them again after R2 slides.
Another case of our MLB bretheren violating "Timing, timing, timing..."
