raeskates,
I'm sorry to hear about your back. If misery loves company...
I was at the doctor yesterday, my achilles tendon has been bothering me the last couple of weeks. Not hurting, just sore, and not when I'm running, just after periods of inactivity, ie getting out of bed in the morning, getting up from my desk at work. The doctor thinks at this time it's just tendinitis and I should rest it (no running, bouncing) for 10days (2 weeks if I can stand not running that long, UGH!). I'll do the 'RICE' suggestion on this website, without the running. Well at least it's only 2 weeks...
I'll pray for you.

Thanks Kevin, I'm sorry to hear about your tendonitis too. I think my back will be better soon. It has felt better today, so I might try a limited workout tomorrow. We'll see. For your tendonitis, I think it's strange that the tendon only hurts after inactivity. Is there any kind of stretches that you can do to help build it up? Good luck.

Re: 50's Anyone?
I did W2D2 today. It was a little harder today -- I think because of the humidity. But I did it!
Happy running!

Re: 50's Anyone?
Well I did it. I warmed up really well and just did my planned workout for W5D2 and I made it. My back feels pretty good too. It's sore but not the heavy pain from Mon. I did go very slow and tried to run next to the road whenever possible. Yeah, hopefully I can do the 20 min run this weekend, because I really want to see if I can do it.

Have a great day.

Re: 50's Anyone?
I am new to the site and just found this thread. I'm 51 and am scheculed to run C25K W1D2 today after work. I used to run and was at the marathon level in my late 30's early 40's, but that was a long time ago and I'm very out of shape. I have tried to get back into it before but started out too fast and injured myself. I'm hoping this C25K will be the ticket.

Re: 50's Anyone?
Today is my first day of training for 3 miles. I got on the scale (first I had to find it!) and it was 159! I was in shock. I am 5'3 and 52 years old. Anyway, I went for a walk of 60 minutes and felt great afterwards. Im going to start slow, 3 days a week. This seems like a really great website.

My C25K W1D2 run was good, and better yet, the morning after felt better than the day after W1D1. I'm on my way!

Re: 50's Anyone?
Hi 50's! I am new to this thread, but have viewed for several weeks and would like to join you. I am 51, have always been active, (only ran in the past for Army PT - hated running) now menopausal - the weight can't find me fast enough!! I am W4D3, and up to this point have really enjoyed and had no problem with the jogging, but have found week 4 to be a bear!! The 90 second recovery between the 3 and 5 min. jog doesn't seem to be enough. I have managed to jog all the jogs, but have added a minute to each of the 90 sec parts. Did anyone else have problems with week 4? Any recommendations - should I repeat week 4? Then was week 5 better? Nice to meet all of you - best of luck with running!!

Re: 50's Anyone?
Welcome Ken, Wishbone and Skuffel (Shivaun). I'm fairly new here too but I'm finding it to be a really encouraging site. I've looked for a long time for a place to talk to other new runners in our age group. So glad to have found this.
Shivaun, I'm way behind you (Week2) so I'm probably not the best help. But I will say that I'm planning to repeat weeks that are particularly hard for me. I have found that when I've tried running programs before, I tended to push too hard and then hated it and quit. I stayed with the schedule instead of listening to my body. I'm taking it slower this time with the hopes of actually sticking to this. I know that diet is important, but of all the studies I'm aware of (I work in the medical field), exercise is paramount as we age if we want to stay healthy and fight the diseases of aging. So I'm determined to stick with this no matter how long it takes. Good luck to you with your progress. Hang in there!

Re: 50's Anyone?
Lyn and Slave - Thanks both of you for your encouragement!! This is a great site, and a way to connect with others with the same goal. I must admit, the thought of repeating a week doesn't sound too pleasant because I was plugging along so well. Patience begets perserverence. Look forward to talking with you again soon. Stay injury free, and blessings to all

Re: 50's Anyone?
Hi
I'm 51 in a couple of weeks so I guess I can join. I live in London and did the C25K a couple of months ago. I was reasonably fit to start with but I had never run before. It wasn't easy, but I now run 5 and sometimes 6K four or five times a week. When I completed the programme, 5K took about 31 to 33 mins on a good day, My best time so far - and that was this week is 28:44mins, but that wasn't easy. Tomorrow, I have a bit of spare time so I'm going to go for a slower run and try to run for a bit longer. I haven't really got the time on a regular basis to run for more than 30 mins, so my aim is to increase my speed over that distance The thing is that I'm beginning to enjoy it!! I splashed out on a Forerunner 205 and love watching the Km tick by while I'm running. I hadn't really appreciated the fact that to knock even a few seconds off your time involves a supreme amount of effort - well it does for me anyway! and I imagine that its that much harder at our age!! I really like reading about how everyone else is getting on.

Re: 50's Anyone?
Welcome Firefly! Glad to have you here. And good morning all! I just got back from doing W2D3 and it actually felt really good. Not a big strain at all. I'm thrilled. And the best part of all is that while I was out there I saw a doe and the youngest fawn I've ever seen. It was really small. What a great treat on a morning run! I also should add that I really like using this C25K podcast. It seems much easier to me when I don't have to watch the time myself. Not sure why that is but it works! Have a great day everyone.

Hey, everyone. I'm 59, a new graduate from C25K, and entered my story under "I'm graduating and you can too."
