Re: 50's Anyone?
Hi, I finished W7D3 of the c25k today. It was very sunny so I extended one part of my run to include more shade and then I didn't know how far to go to get to my 2.5 miles. I decided that on Wed it took me 34 min to do it , so I would go on that time. Well, I wasn't watching my watch and went 35 min and got to 2.6 miles. Yippee. I am slowing getting there. Of course, when I do the race I don't get the 5 min brisk walk. LOL. For those of you doing the OHR, do you eliminate that part and just start running?

Have a great weekend.

I agree that this site is slow. I play a computer game of backgammon while I wait for things to post. LOL

Re: 50's Anyone?
Hi all!

I decided to run today and make Sunday my day off from any type of fitness training. Since I had already done all three days of W1 of the C25K (Sun-Tues-Thurs), I wasn't sure if I want to do an extra day of W1 or go ahead to W2. I wasn't sure if I could really do 90 sec of running, but I decided to go ahead and go for it and it went okay. I was actually surprised when the first two running intervals were done. By the last two, I was begging for mercy at the end of the running intervals, but I pushed through all of them. I was really proud of myself for getting through it. I was glad it wasn't raining this morning, so I could run outside instead on the treadmill.

Have a great day!

Re: 50's Anyone?
Hello all, It's been a while since I've been here. Haven't run in over 3 weeks, . I'm still nursing a sore Achilles tendon. It's a lot better than it had been about a month ago. I've been icing it daily and it's finally starting to improve. I've found I have tight calf muscles. That puts a strain on my Achilles. I've also hired an online coach to help me once I do start running again to not re-injure myself.

Raeskates,

>>Of course, when I do the race I don't get the 5 min brisk walk. LOL. For those of you doing the OHR, do you eliminate that part and just start running?<<

I would not eliminate the warmup. I got to week nine of OHR without any problems. Now I haven't run since the 18th of June. You're muscles need all the warmup they can get before you start 'pounding' them.
I'm sure everyone is different, but doing the 'brisk-walk' warm-up will NEVER hurt.

Thanks Kevin, I will have to figure out what kind of warmup to do, so that when I actually get to a race, I will be ready to run at the right time. What do some of you do to get warmed up for a race?

Re: 50's Anyone?
Good morning everyone, I did W8D1 of the c25k this morning. I have switched from doing time to doing the mileage, so I did 2.8 miles in 37:35(That includes 5 min of walking). I am so close to the 5K distance that I am really excited. I guess that will be next week. I ran really early this morning, because it's supposed to high humidity and in the 90's today. This morning it was only 68 although the humidity was high. It really felt good to be out there today.

Have a good day.

Re: 50's Anyone?
Rae,
Way to go, you sure are making good progress. Isn't it great to feel so good during and after a run?
I got in W3D1 today and it went OK. I just left the pace slow and easy. My last 3 minute segment wa all uphill, got me sweating pretty good. No knee problems today but my right calf tightened up towards the end of the run. I cross trained with a little Tae Bo yesterday and might of overworked my legs a little.

Re: 50's Anyone?
Ok,I had to share this. I can't believe it but I had a dream about doing my first race last night. When you were a kid, did you ever have the dreams about not being prepared for the first day of school? Well, it was like that. I was downtown with my hubbie, and I realized that I was supposed to report in for the race, but I didn't have anything with me. I had on old floppy non-supportive gym shoes and when they gave me the number to pin on, I lost it!!! I remember we had to climb up this really steep stairs to get the starting spot and I was exhausted by the time I got there. My husband finally came with my shoes but I just couldn't seem to get them tied. Fortunately, I woke up about that time and it was a good thing. I was tired and worn out. LOL Oh my and I am still a month away from doing my first race. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I guess I forgot to tell my subconscious that. :-)

Re: 50's Anyone?
Rae -- that's quite a dream!! I think you need to remind yourself that you CAN do this -- you ARE doing this -- and there's NO WAY you'll fail!! Keep running.
I decided to repeat week 4 so I did W4D1 today. No problems and no undue fatigue afterward. This is just to be on the safe side before going on to week 5 with that 20 minute run on day 3. That sounds daunting to me.
It's still humid here today (near Chicago) but it's supposed to be cooler for the rest of the week. I'm looking forward to that.

Happy running.

Thanks Lyn, Actually what's surprising to me is that I am enjoying my running and am almost to the 3.1 miles, so I have no idea why my dream was like. Humid here too but we are getting rain, so hopefully can do w8d2 tomorrow.

Re: 50's Anyone?
Are any of you sore or stiff immediately after running? I am. Right now I'm running 36 minutes 4x a week; I graduated a few weeks ago and am increasing time 3 minutes a week until I get to 45 minutes. When I finish, my knees and ankles and feet are so stiff, not exactly sore, that for the first few walking steps, I'm walking like an elderly person. I take a hot shower which seems to help my muscles, and then a few hours later, I'm walking just fine and any soreness and stiffness are gone.

Yeah, I'm 59. I do run on a TM - my doctor told me to stay there as much as possible to reduce chance of injury.

Does anyone else have this temporary stiffness?

Re: 50's Anyone?
Yeah LSWife, I can feel your pain. Literally at times. After I run, I'm stiff and a bit creaky but it goes pretty quickly again. Its mostly in my hips and sometimes my right knee which has always been a little weak. I do find that I need that rest day in between runs however, but if I leave it two days, I'm back to being stiff again. Go figure.

I'm 53 and back into running again after a long break due to an ankle injury. I'm on W3D2 - have the last run coming up tomorrow or Thursday, depends on my work schedule as to when I can fit it in.

We ARE elderly people!!
Sorry, couldn't resist! I'm faced daily with little reminders that I'm not as young as I once was.
