    I started out at 280 pounds and ran for about a year and a half and did a big race. Check out my article Run Again, from Standing Still to Marathon Runner in Sixteen Months.  Many are inspired about what I have wrote.

     

    Also, check out the movie "Spirit of the Marathon."  Even, if you will never run a marathon, the movie, which can be found on NetFlix, is worth a watch.  You'll see, it normal guys like you and me and pound the pavement.

    I started my running goal in December of last year. At the time I was 230 pounds.  I had lost about 25 pound before this.  I am currently starting to train for my first half marathon and I am down to 185 with the goal of losing another 45 pounds. 

     

    I hope you all just keep moving forward. If you keep moving and doing the next right thing, every run will get better.

    I work in kilo's and started out just 12 weeks ago at 103 kg (approx 230 lbs).  At 52, 183cm (6') I had a heart scare, got put on BP meds and had a barrage of tests done.  Turns out there is nothing wrong with me other than high BP.  Not wanting to spend the rest of my life on meds I decided to get fit and lose weight.

     

    12 weeks on and I can treadmill jog a 5k in 33min and 8k in 55min and I've lost 6kg (13 lb).  I should point out that I am not dieting.  In fact I am eating more, much more - but of better quality food (my running is burning 4000+ kcal/week at present).  So my ultimate aim is to reach 85kg and be able to run a 10k at 5min/km pace.

    Hope everyone is doing well - I completed 10K today - 1:12:55  first time under 1:13.

     

    as important I finished the week under 225lbs for first time in quite a while.  I've been flirting with breaking 225 but as of last night I was between 220 and 225.  Big test will be keeping the progress.  my overall goal is to be sub 200. 

     

     

    As the fall progresses, I hope to update the site more frequently.

    Hi everyone. I'm brand new here, and starting C25K for the first time tomorrow.  I don't think I am fit enough to run, but am going to walk as fast as I possible can during the jogging/running parts.  Looking forward to building a habit of regular activity.

    Jenni,

     

    We all start somewhere.  I had been walking 2-3 at a time before starting C25K at the beginning of the month.  I never would have been able to do this without a lot of walking before I started.  It strengthened muscles and opened up some joints.

    Woke up at 5:30AM this morning and went for a run throught the thick humidity. It is the kids first day of school so I wanted to up and out early so that I have time to get showered and dressed before the morning excitement. Luckily they are still at an age where they look forward to seeing their friends they haven't seen in a while.

    Just updating my profile and catching up on reading. Still running and feeling good! Diet has gone to heck and I have put 15 lbs on in the last few months. I can fix it I know just not into it. Running is going great!!! still racing. Did the Crim and it was very fun. Got my blind daughter running again and have done two races as her eyes and that feels so good! Had a great time yesterday with my other daughter we pushed eachother at the right times and it just felt great to be with her as we ran across the Mackinac Bridge! If I can keep this going then anyone can!!!!   keep at it guys....just run!!!!  You reward yourself and family with each step!!!!!   have a good day.....Mike

    Hi everyone

     

    Started the C25  back in May, after getting up to W3D2 I had to stop in June because of injuries to both my knees.  I started using the exercise bike and the elliptical machine for the June/July.  I was using them steady for a month, but I really did not enjoy it.  I kinda fell out of the exercising thing in July/Aug.  But I started using them again the last 2 weeks.   Today I am restarting the C25...  I am going to go easy and try not to reinjure my knees again.  Weight in May was 275 lb,  I got down to to 262 lb in June and I had managed not to put any weight on since June even though I slacked off on the exercising.  Today is a new day!  I got new sneakers and my orthotic inserts and I am back on W1D1.

    After over a year hiatus due to injury and plain old just giving up on myself, I'M BACK!

    WhenI did the C25k early in 2011, I was miserable and in pain with every step.  I kept at it and finished a few races but after a few months, I ended up with a nasty broken leg, which was seriously demotivating.  I didn't do a thing, exercise-wise, for over a year.  This spring I decided I was fed up with my weight and appearance (I was 2lbs shy of the weight I was when 9 months pregnant with my daughter) so I got a personal trainer.  That was the best thing I could have ever done for myself!  My trainer is great.  He's a good mix of realistic and challenging.  He's helped me to eat cleaner and gain strength. 

    After working out with him for almost 5 months, I decided to give running a try again.  I had my gait evaluated and I've been working on specific exercises to strengthen certain muscles to help with the chronic shin splints and calf tightness I've always had. 

    I've been running for about 3 weeks and I'm happy to report that its going better than ever!  I can tell the strength training has helped.  I am nearly pain free when running (I think there is always a certain amount of discomfort associated with it, even if you're a 110lb marathoner).  I'm definitely easing into it very slowly.  I do not want to get injured again!

    If you're new here, keep at it!  Its worth the pay off of being stronger in both mind and body.
