This is usually a great event. This year was disappointing from the start --- There were no shirts at packet pick up then on Race Day I did not receive a T Shirt although I registered early -- they ran out !--- the bathrooms were locked and the race was NOT a 5k. The distance was 2.55 miles. What is that? My Runkeeper and the site's course map were identical --- they just did not calculate the distance correctly. Very disappointing.....too many races to choose from to run this again. So sorry.
This is the first year I've ran this race and I felt cheated today! The race was 2.5 miles...that is NOT a 5K! The bathrooms were locked at the start so we had to take a trolley to the end, use the bathroom and then take the trolley back to the start. On a positive note, it was for a good cause, the proceeds stay in the local area and it was awesome to see the Marine's running in formation - thanks to all of them for their service!
Agree with the other reviewers, over 300 people waiting in line for 1 family bathroom, until 5 minutes before the race when they finally found the keys to open the mens and womens rooms. Race was not 5k, I can't imagine how that could have happened, there are too many resources that can tell you if your course is 5k. Food after was BBQ, why? Runners normally need good carbs/fruit, not fatty meat and sugary sauce and then people have to serve the BBQ, it's not something that your runners can grab and go. Police were rude to walkers who were coming up behind the marine formation, yelling to get on the sidewalk now. Great cause for the $$ to go to, but not sure we will be back.
These Marines did a wonderful job organizing this event, and you could tell how hard they worked on the details.
Pros: Aircraft fly-overs before race start, Running with the Marines, the race is for charity, everyone at packet pick-up / late registration was friendly and professional, post-race event was well-organized, almost-immediate posting of times
Cons: Course well short of 5K, limited bathroom access at race start, no t-shirts at packet pick-up.
I will definitely run this race again. It's a charity run, folks, so don't be so negative. These Marines worked hard to make it a great race for everyone, and my group and I thank them. Cheers! ![]()
