Some of the women profiled in this book are downright amazing. For example, Lois Ann Gilmore, discovered running in her 60’s after recovering from breast cancer, survived a stroke in her 70’s, and now sets age-group records in her 80’s. All of the stories are inspiring.
It’s a fact that there is a new running boom underway– a tsunami of running women! Indeed, according to statistics posted at runningusa.com, the percentage of women participating in road races has grown from 33% to 55% inthe past two decades, with the number of female road racers totaling over sevenmillion in 2011.
