    200+ Pound Club!

After over a year hiatus due to injury and plain old just giving up on myself, I'M BACK!

WhenI did the C25k early in 2011, I was miserable and in pain with every step.  I kept at it and finished a few races but after a few months, I ended up with a nasty broken leg, which was seriously demotivating.  I didn't do a thing, exercise-wise, for over a year.  This spring I decided I was fed up with my weight and appearance (I was 2lbs shy of the weight I was when 9 months pregnant with my daughter) so I got a personal trainer.  That was the best thing I could have ever done for myself!  My trainer is great.  He's a good mix of realistic and challenging.  He's helped me to eat cleaner and gain strength.

After working out with him for almost 5 months, I decided to give running a try again.  I had my gait evaluated and I've been working on specific exercises to strengthen certain muscles to help with the chronic shin splints and calf tightness I've always had.

I've been running for about 3 weeks and I'm happy to report that its going better than ever!  I can tell the strength training has helped.  I am nearly pain free when running (I think there is always a certain amount of discomfort associated with it, even if you're a 110lb marathoner).  I'm definitely easing into it very slowly.  I do not want to get injured again!

If you're new here, keep at it!  Its worth the pay off of being stronger in both mind and body.

Hey all, the slow one here. Just under an 11 minute mile on my PR 5k speed. I entered the Chilly Half marathon in Nov and the Hyannis Marathon on Feb 24th 2013. Since my son's birthday is the 25th of Feb. Thought it was appropriate. I started this journey when I saw him. My long run distance this week is 8 miles. Keep. Going.

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

    Wideguy,

I too stopped, just for a day mind you. Thought about taking just 2 days off, a week off, turned in to a month.... then more (can't remember my last post here... DOH!). lol

I am back now and running a little different program (5k-101) but want to get back to 5k-land... a little harder program so far, but I have been trying to keep to 10 min/mile during the run portion... will need to slow up a little (maybe)

You are and will always be an inspiration to all of us. You have tenacity on your side, why else would you post here? You still have that spark!

I had gotten down to 212 lbs over 2 years ago and decided to take a couple days off (19months too much). I have crept back up 225 as of yesterday. I woke up @ 4:30 am today and had a run... I am a bit worn, but it is a good feeling of worn.

    200+ Pound Club!

I am 50 and 250+,can't bear to put the #in writing. Tired of being tired and concerned that my blood sugars were high at last appt., I started walking this summer. I was walking 3-4 miles each morning until school started. (Teacher) I am still walking 2 miles each morning, no time for 4. I want to up my exercise so I began running short burst during my walk. Today I heard about c25k, and I am going for it. Going to buy good shoes tomorrow and then start the program Sat. Thanks for inspiring me that I can do this.

Don't worry about the weight... it will come off

Good shoes are a MUST!. I had always suffered from shin-splint,s even in my military days. I went to the local running store (privately owned) and they did a video look at the way I ran and set out a number of the "type" of shoe they said I would need (heavy pronator). So the price range for the shoes they brought out were from $58-$126 and said try each of them on (4 different brands) and pick the one that felt best to me. I paid retail, but it has been worth it.... no foot/shin issues in 2 years, On my second set of the same shoe....

You CAN do this..... you WILL do this!

    Hi All

Just finished W4D1. I wasn't sure if I could do this but the walk/jog went well.  Knees and shins feel good.

    200+ Pound Club!

Nice thread. I started running a couple months ago. I went north of 200 and decided to get to work. My dad struggled with weight (up to 285 at 6') and high blood pressure. With the family genes working against me, running seemed like a way to head in the right direction. I ran earlier this year and did 12 minute miles, they got longer after 12 years away from exercise and gaining some bad habits. Anyway, I've pushed hard and did a half a couple weeks ago. Looking to try a full marathon in spring.

Glad to see a thread where people aren't talking about qualifying for the Boston Marathon or their next ultra.

    Best,

Thanks, bought shoes at a great local running shop, and did d1w1 today.  Frustrated that my name is on the thread. I gave a different display name. Anybody know why this is happening?

    200+ Pound Club!

Hey everyone, first time posting here. Feeling a bit discouraged. I'm 25 and over 200+. I just finished W5D2 of the C25K program today and am just really disappointed in my times. I'm managing around a 14 minute mile and I feel like I should be going so much faster. Also I thought that after 5 weeks I would have lost some weight but not a pound. I'm going to keep going but can't help feeling a little down.
