Hi All- Not sure I am ready to sign the pact yet. I got stuck in some of the back-and-forth on page 9, but I like the idea that this website is about preparing to do a 50 or 100 mile race in year 2015. As StillTheKenyan says, 3 years to go-
I also enjoyed reading some of the learning experiences of running an Ultra. Back to reality, I have run 2 x (5K) races so far - I am a new runner even though I can see the big 4-0 birthday coming up not too far off. I signed up for WorldRunDay 2012, and finished 8 miles then with a decent time for me. I am doing about 20mpw. (you have no idea how many times I read that before I figured out that the W was for Week!)
I am signed up for a 10K on 01/01/13, that should be fun. This is my first winter, so I have some learning coming up fast about ice and snow and all that. I am going to sign up for a Marathon in May 2013. Its a goal of finishing, but I think I can be up to about 60mpw by raceday. I think I can complete it with a run/jog pace. Probably close to 4:30 or 5hrs. But its a race with a 6:30 limit and no sweeper team - so Im in! Then as long as all goes well, I plan to beat my May 2013 time when I run my next Marathon Oct 2013~!
So, assuming I can get 26 miles under my belt in 2013, Im looking towards doing more...maybe.
