Old Coyote:Thanks for the recommendation of the running jacket.  I'll give Target & Champion a try, post-Christmas.

Critter alert: yesterday around 3:45 pm cst, I saw two flocks of cranes (Sandhills, perhaps) heading SSE.  Seemed late in the year to migrating.

On the other hand, we're in for mid thirties weather in the midwest, so what's a crane to do?

Headed to Chesapeake Bay today for family reunion.  Hope to see some shore birds and wildlife. Cranes would be cool but I don't think we have them around here. Colder today in low 40's with winds up to 25 mph. Must run tomorrow!

I love Taregt for running gear.  Their C9 (Champion) stuff is great and lasts awhile - lots of neon!

    Stay safe and warm!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

rinkreb - Welcome; and congratulations. A sub-30 5k is something you have to earn.

jmsab - Can get them online, too.

NHLA - just keep pounding out the miles!

degregorius - I had a flock of sandhills land around me one sunset as I floated in a belly boat. They never took notice of me paddling around. Scared the fish, of course, but it was still way cool.

A 10 or so miler on Hayden/Green Mountain Park at 10:30 this morning. 15 degrees warmer at the trailhead than at home, and it was all of 5 miles as the crow flies. I ran halfway around the mountain, and then up it, then halfway down, then backtracked...Just ran aimlessly. I know the trails well enough to do that . Probably got a half mile of elevation gain all told. Some parts were not runnable - there are just miles of scree and rollers on those trails, and walking is strongly advised on the steeps - but for the most part the grade was shallow enough to run it. 1:54:00, which is the same as my 12.3 miler last Saurday on dirt road.

    Linuscatch - Working too hard?

My last run was...how was yours?

30 degrees, sunnier and less windy today.  I ran 7.7 miles, 1:22:04.  Interrupted run thre quarters of the way through to shop at Mariano's.  I took the long way to the grocery store.  After picking up bread and having a small sample of their gellato, I hofed it home.

Yours truely, taking the concept of running errands seriously,

My last run was...how was yours?

10 miles in 2:02 First time I ran this long. Training for a half on Dec. 30. Last two miles were killer, but I made it Sunny and about 60 degrees today. Tried sports beans for the first time and seemed to help at the 7 mile point.  Stupid camel back leaking. Got to get a new mouthpiece.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I ran a nice 6 miles this morning. Chilly and snowy, but I was dressed right for it. It's amazing how much you don't want to get out in the cold and then how great it feels to be out there after a mile or so! I felt strong and happy.

85oneone Nice job and I agree, thank you for what you do!! My dog/running buddy:

jmsab23 Sounds like a fine Thanksgiving! And bravo on the speed and the TM run.

Francessmom Happy Turkeyday. Good job on your 5.18 and the 3 milr run/hike/quality fam. time!!

NRDgirl You did a really great job on the half! You are such an inspiration for me. "German chocolate cake and banana pudding" <~ Yum!

degregorius Happy Black Tights Friday!  <~ Thats very funny!! Black tights for me too, and black balaclava plus a neon-lime green vest (I like to be seen by drivers). Cool on the beautiful cranes. Nice long run for you.

Old Coyote You are quite the master and scooping out a good deal! Nice run in your sunny part of the world and the rambling trail run sounds great!

rinkreb I'm SO proud of you!! Bravo on the weight loss and the new PR! Way to go.

water aerobics this morning and a 1 hour hike in the woods with the dog this afternoon.  Ankles are sore from yesterday. I'm sure they'll feel good enough to run tomorrow.

Thanks all - I would like to think if I needed a hand someone would help me.   I try to follow whatever you want to call it:  golden rule; karma; being the person my dog thinks I am; etc.

MelodyLea - what a cutie she is!

rinkreb - yay you - keep it up.

degregorious - love how you run errands.

My last run was...how was yours?

Today 3 miles in 26 minutes.  I am learning that running without my watch is quite liberating.  Instead of checking my time and pace and trying to make adjustments, I run based on how I am feeling. The corner where I start and stop my runs has a digital clock/ temperature sign, so I can figure my overall time.  Today was 39 degrees, overcast and windy.

Rinkreb - Great success story!  You look fabulous!

Old Coyote - You always paint amazing pictures with your descriptions.

Degregorious - Do you use a backpack?  I often run to PO to mail letters, but have a hard time picturing running with grocery bags.

Runner grrrl - You are almost there! It will get easier with training.  Is your half somewhere warm?

Melody - Your dal-mut-ation is adorable.  I love dogs!

Deb - I definitely believe in Karma. Runners need to take care of each other!  I always wave and great my fellow runners/ pedestrians/ dog walkers and even people waiting for the bus. Heck - if you honk at me, I will probably wave back!

NHLA - Those houses are amazing!  Did they smell good too?

    Back to work/ school

    Stay warm and healthy!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

degreg - One morning when I woke up and was *GASP* out of coffee, I ran to the grocery store with my water bottle and belt. Bought 1/2 lb of beans, poured them in my water bottle, and finished my 5.

Runnergrrrl (did I get the Rs right?) - Nice 10 miler! If you can do 10 in training, you can do 13.1 on race day. So now, every mile you log will only make your half that much more enjoyable.

melodylea - It's been chilly here, but dry. I wish it would snow

Debm - In many trail races, failure to offer or render aid can be grounds for a DQ. You can always decline aid that's offered.

    NHLA - "easy" run, huh?

Francessmom - Thumbs up to running w/out a watch.

Got out about 7:30 this morning, 30 degrees, clouds, running pants weather. Just an easy 5k, 30:34, then shower and church.

I went to a restaurant I'd heard raves about, and it was packed, so I sat at the counter and was not at all impressed with the pancakes (bland), the scrambled eggs (over processed) or the bacon (reheated in the fryer).

I needed a pair of jeans, so I went to the www (world's worst walmart). They did have 1 pair in my size. Now get this: It's allegedly the same size I wore when I was a senior in high school. I'm wearing a boys' size 18 regular. Now, I'm 20 lbs heavier now than I was then (and I was real skinny back then!), so I know that sizes have changed radically. Still, boys sizes are 5 bucks cheaper than mens, so score!

My last run was...how was yours?

Last run was thanksgiving 5K  --  however the actual last time out the door was 1.5 hour hike along Goose Creek here in NOVA on saterday  --  we were only ones on trail til the end when we met a trail rider just starting out while we finished our hike  --  I did not remember to record distance but it was between 3 and 4 miles of easy walking  with occasional scramble over small creek or around fallen tree.

hope everyone had good thanksgiving and has recovered from food comas
