Mary Kay, I agree with OC. I actually responded to you in my lost post yesterday that I thought you needed to rest and allow your body to fight off whatever this is ailing you. Hope the chest cold fully subsides quickly so you can get back to doing what you love comfortably. Running while not feeling 100% sucks. BTW, great pic from Philadelphia.

@Old Coyote:  Good day - I will be in the boulder/westchester area in a week or so for meetings  -  can you recommend an area for early morning or evening run?  I have done couple of trails but don't know area enough to know where to look.

Yes those are the hills I run. Your pic is of the blue ridge parkway. This is a pic of Ecco mt where I live ( jump off ) Hebron mt ( champion hills ) & pisgua mt ( on the parkway.)  It took me 2 hrs 30 min to get to the top of pisgua on trails. Jeter mt is where the paint horse ranch is.

Re: My last run was yours?

December 1st. Chicago.  Someone was mowing their lawn.

    Do these words go together?

Yes, because it was in the 50s on Saturday Morning.  Tights not needed. I ran 12 plus miles to and from a Chicago riverfront park. Included was a mile around a track there.  (I think it's a city park.)  No blazing speed. About two hours and seventeen minutes. Pace-  11:15 miles.  That's close to l.s.d.

On the way back, I stopped at a cetain new grocery store I've allready mentioned.  Um...yeah, I had to pick up some stuff.  Really. If you're in the Midwest, try their sugar free chocolate gelatto.  A fine protein recharge. Gelatto has protein, doesn't it?  You'll back me up on this?  Guys?...Anybody?...[SOUND OF CRICKETS]

Sunday-recovery day, and listening to a gazillion motorcyclists heading for the annual Toys for Tots Campaign.

Lots of Harleys with wreaths, candy canes& other Christmas gear.  It was in the 60's today!

Who wouldn't be out on a two-wheeled vehicle?

    My last run was yours?

    Howdy All.

Well, after 6 weeks with not even so much as a short jog....I got out for a 5.5 mile run at a 8:50 pace.  Felt excellent overall.  The first 2.5 miles were difficult, but miles 3-5 I was able to settle back into comfortable rhythm.  Legs are pretty tight today, but not as bad as I thought.

Other cities have a Toys for Tots Campaign, don't they?  Not making an obscure reference, am I? Sunday, a whole lot of motorcyclistsparaded down Western Ave, and  brought toys to a Marine Corp Center in Chicago for distribution.  Then since the weather was nice, they rumbled off in all directions wearing elves clothing, Santa Suites, etc.  Quite a sight.

    Back to running.

A short 3 mile lunchtime run today, once the fog cleared.

it's supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow.  Time for another lunchtime run.

    My last run was yours?

Yowza, yowza, yowza!! So much stuff to read.

Took the night off Sunday after a long (11 hours) work day. Ran a total of 7 miles tonight with a 3-mile start, then 6 x 400 @ full speed, with 200 jogs; then I tried a mile run at 9 mph (6:40). Finished with a 1/2 mile jog -- 56:06 total.     I decided I'm going to try a mile run a couple times a week, increasing a little each time to inch my way up to 10 and see how all that goes. My trial tonight went fine, so we'll see.

It's supposed to warm up tomorrow and Wed. (day off), but maybe rain Wed. I'm supposed to run the big hill run in the morning, but we'll see about the rain.

Lots of posts, but here goes:

NRDgirl:   Your unofficial race reminded me of my 5k at the end of October when a few of us in the lead turned the wrong way on the return.

Coyote:   Keep your chin up. I started over two years ago after 25 years at the same company. Like they say when you become unemployed: "Your job now is finding your next job." Best of luck.

Ogr44... Glad the knee is doing better.

Francessmom.... Maybe the offspring are motivated and inspired by their mother?!?!?

NHLA..... That Ecco Mtn. run sounds extremely impressive. 600' in 15 min.s..... I'd need an elevator.

Everyone else.... A lot of great work going on. Keep it up!!

    My last run was yours?

Hey All - Another 2 days off. - I planned to run on Sunday, but a friend came down and I couldnt fit it in. Worked the night before and Sunday night.

Got my run in today. Didnt really feel good. Thought 51 degrees would be a fun run, but just wasnt into it. I added 2% to my PR for distance. 10:24/mi is well below where I like to be. I'd like to hit 13.1 by end of the year. NRDgirl - that fun 1/2 sounded fun. Even with the 1.5mile shortcut. I am up to 11.4 miles- so I could almost do a 1/2, if I did it like that. A couple more goals I have are to finish the trail that Ive been running. It looks like it only has another 0.5 miles to it, and then I think I can take another road back to where I started!

jmsab wow, you run in -20? I have found after running in 30 and 50 degrees, that it seems I like the 30's better. At the very least, I dont DISLIKE running in 30 as much as I thought I would. No snow, no ice, no problem!

Old Coyote sorry about your job loss. hope it all works out soon.

Frances Mom-  you are going to Farmers Markets in December? Ours are all closed till at least Memorial Day in CT. Congrats on that 8:39pace the other day. Im still working on speed.

    My last run was yours?

Today 57 degrees at 10 AM!  Ran 3.89 in 32 minutes.  I wanted to try to make 5 miles but my body said no.  I spent over 1 hour at dentist before my run and my breathing, mucous production was off.

MaryKay - Give yourself permission to rest, then come back slowly.  I took a few weeks off after my first half.  I felt mentally adrift at first. But I treated myself to some small indulgences like reading for pleasure, a pedicure, sleep!  My body had time to heal itself and I got a new perspective on my workouts.

Degregorius - We have a motorcycle/toys thing in our town too.  The cyclist gather at the Community Center where toys have been collected, they load up trucks and tarilors then all proceed through town and make their way to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to distribute the toys.  We have stood on the corner for over 30 minutes while hundreds of bikers pass by.  It is pretty impressive!

NRDgirl - What a crazy weekend but fun!  You got the right attitude!

Dilljeffrey - We live close enough to Lancaster County that we have Amish/Mennonite stalls at our farmers market.  It is only open on Fri/Sat.  Obviously the Amish aren't growing acocados or lemons but the fruit is really fresh.  The mushrooms are excellent.  Plus, just around the corner from me is Produce Junction where you can get wholesale fruits and veggies but in bulk - 6 lbs of bananas for $2, 10 navals for $3, etc.

Everyone else, great runs.  every mile counts!

    Stay healthy!

    My last run was yours?

Even though it's spring weather here, also, my last run is nonexistant. I'm listening. Called in sick yesterday and will stay off the TM for a week. Thanks all for your concern and advice!! Someday when I grow up maybe I'll be able to talk to myself the same way. Btw, sorry my post was so long.

DillJeff - I you are at 10+ mi., you can finish 13.1 today. Take a week's cutback and go for it.

FrancesMom - Thanks for the great suggestions! Change is hard for me and I'm not a fan of losing conditioning either but it beats being sick.

Snerb - doing 5.5 on your first return run at 8:50 is stellar!! Great job!! You are bound to feel tight, no?

Don - "Gelatto has protein, doesn't it?" Yeah, about as much as beer and a little bit less than Nachos. You say that like it's a good thing? The biker Toys 4 Tots campaign is nationwide. It's a sight to see when they ride with their teddys. Must have been amazing with them dressed as elves!

NHLA - Beautiful! I can see why you run so much!! I'll bet those trails are challenging but it all looks like God's country from a distance.

NRDGirl - 10k and HM back to back!  That's got to be some adrenaline rush!! Love the local races but it's so easy to get lost. Done it twice. A man in the area trained for the NY Marathon as his first and since he didn't run he's holding his own.Thought the idea was great. I've volunteered to help. There will be chalk lines!! thanks for your advice. I am listening.

OC - Thanks for your concern!! Yoga sounds like a great idea!

    Run strong and fearless!!

    Mary Kay

    Running: Started 5/6/2011; Graduated C25k - 7/21/11; Graduated B210k - 11/24/11;

I may be slow but I'm persistant.

snerb - Welcome back! After 4 weeks off, I couldn't run more than a mile.

Jeff - "It looks like it only has another 0.5 miles to it, and then I think I can take another road back to where I started!" I've said that myself on a couple of occasions. I advise bringing extra fluid and food, lol!

    jmsab - Some good speed

    MaryKay  - *sigh of relief*

Easy 4.1 or so miles, 41 minutes. Wore my MT10s, even though there's a .75 mile road I have to run before I get to the trail. Pretty comfortable on roads, and on soft trail or woodchips those shoes are a dream! No rock plate, though, so I have to watch my step and for some terrain they're just not suitable. My last run was yours?

Not the very best 3.5 mile run, but I "got 'er done". I ran in the afternoon (which is still new to me) Afternoon running sure sets up the rest of the day nicely.

mkayc Hi Mary Kay. It's been so nice chatting with you over on Facebook. Love the photos! Regarding my jacket, I seem to stay dry in that kind of temp. I haven't run in the rain yet (been amazingly lucky this season) but we'll see in the Spring. It might be the quality of the product, being Gortex, it doesn't cause me to overheat.

justrundan Nice job on the speed intervals.

NRDgirl I LOVE the "unofficial, unsponsored, uninsured, unsolicited" race! It sounds so fun.

    NHLA Great pics!

    My last run was yours?

No 10k PR tonight, but still had a very good run -- 43:47. Cranked it up a little too late, but ran the final 1.2 miles at 9.2 and above. Weather today wasn't exactly like you other springtime runners had, with temps only reaching about 38 or 40. Very foggy, too. Tomorrow starts warm, but with rain which will be clearing off, hopefully by 9 a.m., when I run with my son's buddy. Then cold returns.

Maine bikers have an annual Toy Run in August, when bikes from all over the state ride into the state capital and they all bring toys, with some of the bikers wearing Santa outfits. You can hear them coming from a long ways off sometimes, if they've picked up enough riders along the way. It IS very impressive.

Melody.... "Get 'er done" is always good.

NHLA.... I saw a poster of a road that stretched out with four or five rolling hills/dips. The words on the top of the poster were a paraphrase of the Nike slogan. They said.... "Just do them."  Of course, I thought of you.

Snerb... Sounds like an excellent return run after 6 weeks!!

Degregorious..... 12 miles at any pace is a very good run in my book.

Marykay..... I can't remember where I read it, but it was last year and the article said if you've been training pretty much steadily, you can take up to a 2-week break before you have to worry about muscle-loss. Sometimes the body just needs a rest.

Dilljeffrey.... NO, I do not run in -20. The coldest I've run in is around 27, or something like that a few weeks ago. I hate the cold, despise the rain, and am allergic to hills.

Coyote.... Still keeping fingers crossed for you.
