C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)

First off, to all you new people that popped in, Welcome! To anyone lurking, by all means come in and say Hi.

I ran W6D1 today, it went well. I didn't have any major problems and decided to run my old course with all the crazy hills.

I am in a very bleh mood today. Historically it has not been a good day for me, so I will spare you the philisophical rambling. My iPod knew it though, because I had it on random the whole time and all the songs had the same appropriate theme to them. Sometimes I think that thing is possessed. I quit making my timed audio tracks since the intervals are long enough and are few enough for me to easily keep track.

Hope you are all doing well, and glad to see we have stuck it out this far!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
I was roaming through the W5's postings and there seems to be a large group of us still continuing with C25K!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!!!!

Most of us seem to have conquered a "large mountain" with D3...it now seems that anything is possible with our running pursuits (4 weeks ago we struggled with 90secs...now we are powering through 20 MINTUES STRAIGHT!!!!)

Keep your thoughts positive, recover from your injuries and go out and run/walk through with a smile!!!!

Good luck on your next run!!!

Ps - Bring on W6!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Hey, just wanted to add another big WELL DONE to everyone for last week and thanks to everyone who said well done to me! Welcome to the new people, I'm glad I'm not the newest one any more!

Did W6D1 yesterday and it was fine I'm looking forward to day 2.

lisac77 and SunnyGirl, I'm also doing Weight Watchers. Have lost 11lbs since the start of C25K and had already lost 29lbs before that (since I started in March). I have 14lbs to go until I'm in my healthy weight range and then another 16lbs to goal. It's worked well for me so far but I know it's not the right plan for everyone.

Have great weeks everyone, I'm starting to really look forward to my runs now, hope you are too!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Happy week 6 to everyone! I did W6D1 yesterday and it was a good run. After W5D3 it was really doable. I am anxious to get to D2 now. Our last day of intervals! I think those of you who have been waiting for more changes in your bodies will start to see them once we are running those longer times with regularity.

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
hey all! congrats to everyone for finishing up their 20 min run! and i'm pumped about week6!

i had a slight problem with last week...my left knee decided to act up for my W5D2 run when i was 3 min into it. so, instead of running through the pain i stopped and rode the bike for 45 min. so, today (sunday) i decided to do my W5D3 run after taking a little running break...i thought to myself that if my knee starts hurting again that i would just do the 8 min intervals. well, i'm VERY happy to say that i completed the 20 min without stopping!! also, my knee didn't bother me!!!

BRING ON WEEK 6!!!!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
W6D1 under the belt!

Still feeling slugish....For some reason I have lost motivation. I have to 'make' myself walk out the door. Previous weeks I was eager to get out there...not sure what is up?!?!?

May need to take a closer look at my diet. I do easy alternate days - I walk for 1 hour (something I have been doing for over 1 year now, so no difference there. I actually feel better at the end of the walks since starting C25K)

Hopefully its a temporary slump and I will gt my second wind for D2 and beyond.

Sorry for the negative vibes.

Will send out positive vibes to all that are running today.
Goodluck to everyone!!!!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Hi everyone!
I'm one of the lurkers that decieded to come out of hiding and talk to my fellow c25kers. Anyhow, I've been following this group for a while now, because it is the closest to my schedule as I can find. I finished W5 D3 this morning, and I thought everyone was crazy for saying it wasnt so bad last week, but I was really surprised that I did it with out any real problems. Granted I slowed wayyyyyy down for fear of wearing myself out half way through. I came home and charted my distance, and apparently at my pace today, it would take almost an hour ( well 45 minutes) to run my 5k (which is in october) but I'm hoping that I'll speed up once I'm not so scared of running for more than 20 minutes straight. The awesome news is that I made it and am excited for Week 6! The weather is awesome here in maryland today.. cloudy and cool... perfect running weather for me.. even a few sprinkles came down.. ahh.. it was refreshing!!
Good luck everyone! I can't wait to read about your week!
Kelly

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
I have to admit, y'all being here got me going today! I am having to change up my schedule due to an early morning meeting Wed. At first I thought I'd do Sun/Tu/Th but didn't get up in time yesterday. I will prolly do M/Th/Sat this week.

I did NOT want to run this morning when I got up! But telling myself my schedule was more forgiving today than tomorrow, and seeing all your posts, I did it. And I'm glad! Made it through w4d1 today. Had some dull aches in the right calf and shin but I remember reading in Runner's World (yes I bought one!) that dull was okay, shooting was bad. Was a bit sore on the drive home but I stretched really well and now I'm glad I have 2 days to cross train/recover to make sure I can do d2 Thurs!

Have a great week and keep on truckin' everyone, you are doing great!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Hi all,

I've been reading this group for a week now and I wanted to chime in. I'm doing the C25K on my own because my workout buddy ditched me in the second week, so it's good to know that others are out there going through it too!

I'm going to do week 6 over again this week because I wasn't able to get through day 3 last night. I went for a pretty intense hike that left me with massive blisters, so I ended up doing day 2 again.

Are any of you treadmill runners like me?? I do 1 day a week outside, and the other 2 on the treadmill...just because it's more convenient since I run at night. Though, I must say that I push myself more when I'm outside!

Does anyone have any suggestions for nutrition/diet? I could really use some tips.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Well THAT sucked! This was the first run that I felt sure I could do after finishing W5D3. Surely, if I can run for 20 min straight, then 2 5 min and an 8 min interval couldn't be so bad, right? Not so much. I couldn't find a rhythm or get relaxed. I huffed and puffed the whole way through. At various times, my outer legs hurt, my breathing was overly labored, etc.

But I somehow muddled through. I keep telling myself that I'm stronger than I was 10 days ago and that I can't expect every run to be better than the last. Now I'm worried about Friday's D3 run. sigh

Lizzy- I run on a TM. I have 2 kids at home and this way I can run when it's convenient for me.

Have a great week everyone- run safe!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Hey, everyone, I'm poppping back in after skipping out last week. I had multiple "issues," starting with recovering from a bad sunburn from last weekend. I'm not sure if it was sun stroke or whatever, but the beginning of my week was recovering from having a fever & chills from the bad burn, then having 3-4 days of swelling-in my face. Yes, stupidity has a price to pay.

Then starting Friday my ankles & feet, & even part of my lower legs swelled up & I have no idea why. It's gotten better, almost back to normal today. I've never had that happen before, don't know if it's something to do with the thrombophlebitis that's still present or what.

All I know is today I'm ready to get back out there-or in there, since I do the TM at the gym. I was so happy to come back here & see everyone sticking to it, great job everyone! I'm going to be a little behind now, but we'll see how it goes. I actually miss the running, and I have some stress that's just screaming for a release!

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
I did W6D1 this morning. It wasn't as easy as I would have liked it to be. I think it had something to do with jogging on the track. It's so boring. I did the 20min jog in the park and it seemed so much easier. If it dries up a bit, I will definitely go back to the park to complete D3.

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Sounds like so many of you are having that post big run blah run. Don't get discouraged. If you did the 20 minutes 2 days ago, maybe your body is still recovering. I'm sure D2 runs will be much better.

Welcome to all those who joined us! I'm glad you found us and I'm pretty impressed that you've all managed to keep yourselves motivated through the first 5 weeks alone. Only 4 more weeks to go for us.

Hootie83 - good to hear that your knee was fine with the 20 minute run. The bike cross training was probably a good idea.

Sunnygirl & marylandmom - bad days happen. keep going and you'll get another good day.

I just finished W6D1 and it went really well. I'll be glad when the intervals are over so I don't have to do so much math in my head. Walk 5 minutes, run until 12 (or was it 13?), walk until ..... You get the idea. I ended up doing one really really long interval last week by mistake because I lost track of the math. Oops. Next week, it's just solid running.

I'm not running as fast as the other runners who pass me, but my cadence is almost as high, so my stride must be really short. It feels good to actually, sorta kinda feel like a runner. Now on to Day 2! Good luck to everyone.

Re: C25K Week 6 (Run Like the Devil)
Good morning from the rainy, cool north east.

I had no choice but to run outside in the 50 degree weather... in the rain, this morning to get in W6D1. I was really tempted to cut it short but didn't. Today went really well-- the middle 8 being easy compared to my fisrt 5 minutes.

Welcome to the new folks! There's a great group here that does a darn good job at motivation when we need it.

Sorry to keep it short, but I am going to turn on my space heater and try to dry the bottom of my pants now that I am in the office!
