Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Finished W7D2 however I'm running somewhere between distance and time. After my 5K fiasco, I've slowed way down. And I'm finding it much easier and much more enjoyable. I ran 31 continuous minutes today. It was only 2.3 miles but I felt like I could have kept going. I'm finding that I start picking up my pace after running certain distances. My second mile was faster than the first. And then going into the 3rd mile, I was going even faster. Which is not what I had intended on doing. I think I start getting tired and start going faster. I found myself looking down at the road and shuffling along. If I keep my head up and shoulders back, I can control my pace much better. I'm completely throwing the idea of speed out the window. I think that will come as my endurance increases. My goal by the end of 9 weeks is to continuosly run 5k. The heck with the time!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
I agree, all of these posts are so inspiring to me. I feel like we are all in this together! Go Us!

I completed W7D1 today. This is the first time that I actually jogged without taking a walking break. This is progress! I jogged the entire 25 minutes! Yahoo!

I am going by the time on this challenge, and at the end of 25 minutes, I had only gone about 2 miles. Slow but steady wins the race! I think when I am finished with the 9 weeks, I'm going to go back and try to run for the distance.

After Monday's sucky run, I was very hesitant to run this morning. It turned out to be 100 times better than Monday's run. I'm so glad that I did not give up.

My first 5k will be in December. I think I will be ready by then, and maybe not come in last place.

Keep going Long Haulers!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Just got back from W7D2 and it was much much better than Monday. I probably could have gone longer, but I sure was happy to start walking at 25 minutes. I have been doing all of this for time, and I think when I "graduate" I will add a week of 33 minutes, then a week of 36...At my 5mph pace 36 minutes would be three miles, so if I can do that, I'll be satisfied.

Anybody else who's been doing time...are you going to add a week or two?

Roxanna - Thanks for posting, I live out from Laurel in the Calhoun community. I went down to Hattiesburg this afternoon to register for the class and My First 5K, after the class I went over to the Long Leaf Trace where the Pine Belt Pacers were having a 2 mile run. Each runner guessed their time before they started and the winner was the one closest to their time, the lady who won it guessed her time exactly. You could not wear anything to help you with the time or pace. Are you going to be running the weekly runs? I'm planning on going down for the 6:15 am run.

I will run W7D2 in the morning,

Happy Running
<HR>

That is a neat thing the Pine Belt Pacers did...I have been checking into their website and am thinking about joining their group....but I wanted to wait until I'm more of a "runner"..preferably after I finish the C25K..hehe. I was at the Payne Center today getting my locker rental for this quarter updated..I couldn't imagine running in this HEAT it was so hot on campus! But I did see several joggers "outside" running the track.

I was wanting to go to the Trace on Fridays and get "practice" runs in since I get out of class at 12pm and do not have to be in Laurel until 2:30 (finishing my teaching degree at Southern, and daughter is going to LCS).

I haven't signed up for the 5K race, because the flier I have says registration is the "day of race at 8am", but tomorrow while I'm at the Payne Center I'll ask about that. I wasn't interested in taking the classes they are offering since I'm doing the C25K on my own....

Is the 6:15am run on Saturdays with the Pinebelt Pacers???

Well good luck with your W7D2 run tomorrow! I'm off to do W4D2 now

~Roxanna

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
juststarted, don't feel bad. It happens. I have found the same thing happens to me once I stop running. My legs just freeze up and I can't seem to get started running again. Last week during that 5K, I thought I'd run as long as I could, then walk a few minutes and then continue running. After I stopped that first time, I couldn't seem to get my running stride back. I kept having to stop.
So now I'm running much, much slower and I'm lasting a lot longer. I've found it's easier to run slowly instead of running faster and then taking walk breaks. My legs just can't seem to handle it.
Your next run will be better

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Strange to think that 6 weeks ago, we were all worried about running for 3 minutes! Yay team! Take care of that ankle, Sarah.

W6D2 for me this morning, and I also found it difficult. I think that walking section made me lazy. I decided to get moving in the last couple of minutes & did a little sprint to get the heart beating a little faster. I think I'm actually looking forward to Friday's run with no walking...or maybe the cold morning froze my brain, I'm not sure. I actualy wore a jacket for the whole run, and wished I had gloves! Man, I love Canada!!!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Week 7, Day 2 of C25K is done! Today's 25 minute run was easier than Monday, when I still had some shin splints from the weekend. I was able to speed up a bit, altho I'm still really slow compared to most people. That's ok, I'm going for endurance now, not speed. I am only getting to about 1.75 miles in my 25 minutes. But I am strictly doing time, and once I can run for 30 minutes, then I'll work on distance.

Part of my reason for starting this was weight loss. I've been dieting and have lost 60 lbs in the past year, but have another 40 to go. I may not be losing weight right now (and I know at these short distances I won't), but I think my rear end is shrinking !

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Juststarted, hang in there. You'll do better next time around.

I finished W6D2 today. It was so much better than D1. I picked up the pace for a bit in the first interval. It was a full on run. It felt good. I just wish I had the endurance to continue.

Right now, I'm running for time. I'll work on distance once I'm done with C25K. I plan to continue onto OHR. The first 3 weeks consists of running 30min. I can improve on distance then.

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Hey guys!

juststarted-you are not alone!! I definitely had a rough time with W6D2...I think there is a point where intervals are harder for your body than just running the whole thing. I sometimes snoop in other threads, and there are plenty of runners who have echoed that feeling.

Christie-good to hear that you have been doing time too. I didn't realize the OHR started with 30. I guess I could just go into that program right away. I think having a structured program like this keeps me going!

Keep it up everyone!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
I did W7D2 this evening, and found myself watching the time a lot more than I did with D1. I think I might be dehydrated because the past couple runs I've smelled ammonia and I read on this site that that is bad news. Time to up the water intake!

I am definitely up for continuing on to One Hour Runner. It's always best for me to stick to a plan so I don't get lazy!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 7!!!!!!
Jazzy, you said your behind is shrinking. Mine is getting bigger! I've worked for 2 years doing all kinds of exercises to develop a behind. No such luck. Just a flat butt. But since I've started running, I'm actually getting a behind. WooHoo!

I would like to keep on being OHR Long Haulers. I think that's a great idea.
W7D3 for me in the morning. Happy running everyone

I'll be with ya on the OHR once I get back to running! It's going to be a long winter doing circles on a track
~Sarah

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone, I really appreciate it! Ankle's doing better, just bruised up. I'll get back to running on it hopefully on saturday...nice and slow.
