Help: Making running a priority

Hello all! I just started running again about a month ago and I am now running 5km/ 3m in about 33 minutes. In the beginning I was running every second day and it was great but ever since about two weeks ago I've only really run twice! I'm mad at myself for doing that. I like going for runs at night because thats when its not too hot. I'm just worried with school starting in about two weeks and getting back to crazy schedules and stuff that I will just completely stop running. I would appreciate some help on how people have stayed motivated. I'm thinking maybe setting a goal or something? Any tips would help. Thanks

It was tough, but I made the switch to early morning running. I run when no stores are open, no phone calls are made, no good TV is on and no family members are awake to ask for (insert just about anything here).

Re: Help: Making running a priority
the only reason i run is the love of it. there's little more i can add than that. i just tend to it as best i can. it's high on the list of priorities so, wherever i am, whatever i'm doing, i get up early enough to spend an hour or so running. i'm totally undisciplined so that's not what does it for me. it's the love of the run.

Re: Help: Making running a priority
I always think about how bad I feel when I don't run. I started running in October on a TM and when summer came I started running outside at 6:00 am. This was sometimes hard but I make myself get up and do it. I set the coffee on the timer and have my clothes ready. I just do it. Now that the seasons are changing and it is staying darker later, I am faced with starting 15-20 minutes later which will make it a push to get to work on time or run on a TM later in the day. Either way, I will work it out. It is important to me. You will work it out too -- if it is important to you!

Good luck!

Re: Help: Making running a priority
Get out early AM!!! Start a routine for yourself. Once your in the habit it'll be easier to stick with it. Your days will be more productive provided that your at least eating properly (forget sleeping) and clearing your head with exercise. Do it now so that you can take some time off, if req'd, for mid-terms and finals. It truly is a balance make them work together. Good luck.

Re: Help: Making running a priority
I have started running about 3 times over the past 10 years. Each time after a few months I stop doing it. This time, I think it is finally going to stick. The key to success for me this time is signing up for a 1/2 marathon. I figure the 1/2 marathon costs enough money so that I won't want to quit and blow the money. Also, the training program is long enough that I hope that by the time I do the 1/2 marathon I will have become a runner and not want to quit.

On those days that I don't feel like running I just tell myself that I will run one mile (we all have 15 minutes to spare) and then that usually turns into 3 or 4 miles.

Keep it up. Just put one foot in front of the other!
