Bucket list, brownie points whatever you call it my best thing was I ran my FIRST marathon. On top of that I broke my ankle a month before the race, just after my 20 mile run. My sport doc said no running and would let me know if I could run again 5 days before the race. I could. I did. Not fast. Wore an ankle brace. I did it. Happy. I know that is huge but all accomplishments are and none are greater than others, we all run in the same direction. I want to hear what you did this year. Please post
2012 was definitely a great year for me running-wise. Only a week into the new year and I had ran my first half marathon. I wasn't pushing for time or anything because I wanted it to be a great experience, which being in Disney is hard to avoid!
Honorable Mentions:
- Ran my second Half marathon in under 2 hours in May! Definitely surprised by that one
- Cut over a minute of my per mile 5K time in a year.

2012 was a year that we started the empty nest, (still miss them every day). So best thing was both my kids are in college and doing very well!
#2 ran over 2,000 miles for the year with only some minor injuries.
#3 Course PR on MCM by about 20 mins not a marathon PR miss by 6 mins
#4 PR for a 1/2.
Hoping for another healthy year for us all!
BOS: 2,000 miles rocks!! I hit 1,000 this year and I thought that was way cool so you are twice as cool as me.
Leigh: A Half under 2 hours is way awesome and one of my goals for sure!
You both are way cool!
Great job to all!
Finally...breaking 24 min for the 5K...at age 55 that barrier was looking pretty insurmountable (a number of 5K's in the 24:30 vicinity but none sub 24). Then came the miracle of Downtown Glendale in March...expected a good race on a flat and fast course that I knew well, ended up at 23:47. I may never quite know what I did entirely right. LOL.

Lose 20 pounds and do my first 10-miler in 3 years
Finally some progress towards the good ole days...
I finally committed to smarter training by resisting the urge to to from running every day to only 4 days of quality running which allowed me to finished this year's Boston Marathon in record heat injury free. I was fully recovered in 24 hours and back to work in my heelss. I am also happy to report several personal records and as I increased my strength training, during my days off from running, I'm in the best shape after 27 years of running. 43 years never looked so mmm mmm good!

This year I upped my distances completing a 10 miler and a half marathon. I also managed to get faster at the ripe old age of 47! I won the trophy for fastest female runner at my local 5k. I recently ran a training run of 3.87 miles in 29 minutes which is a pace of 7:31!
I am hoping to keep healthy and keep running in 2013!

All these things are so awesome!!! I am working hard to get faster and love hearing from the speady women over 40, I am 47 so that inspires me! Heck you all inspire me.
The best thing? Probably that my last half-marathon of the year was better than expected. I had a very inconsistent training year so my times were all over the place.
And I hung with a friend of mine in a marathon where we technically DNF'd. She was having health/medical issues but decided to take a shot at the marathon anyway. Ha ha - it went about how you would expect.

Urbster - How did you train physically and mentally for your marathon? I'm toying with the idea of a marathon and have started to do research about training, etc. That is a big accomplishment for you to have complete so congrats!

Thanks so much that is great for you to say! My marathon training mostly followed a book called "The complete 26 week training program Marathon and Half Marathon. The Beginners Guide" (pretty long title) I did not strictly follow it word for word but I got the miles in when I needed to. When other life stuff comes up you sometimes need to make a choice. I was a club musician for 25 years, worked every weekend on top of my full time office job, I had to give one up. I couldn't get home at 3am and go out for a 16 mile run so the day job won. I honestly believe running a marathon changes lives. You just have to want it. Believe in yourself.
???Urbster - I definitely have a inch to do and have been doing my research on training. I actual plan to train for one in the same manner as I trained for my half (small runs during week, long run on weekends, 1 progressively long run every 3-4 weeks). The only thing that is haulting my signing up for one is my boys. They are very young and are much daddy's boys and when I'm gone for a long run, they have a hard time with it. I do take them with me during the warm days but with it winter now, it just isn't happening.
