Hi other new runners! It's just after New Year's which means maybe there are people signing on who are thinking of a running resolution to start off the year... DO IT! It's so great
I've been running for six months now beginning with the Couch to 5k program and it's awesome. I just wrote a blog about some of my thoughts on starting to run in case anyone wants tips from another real beginner ![]()

Happy Running Everyone!!!! And walking! And then running some more! And then stopping for a second and then running again!
Great post on your blog. Very motivating. I completed the Couch to 5K almost a year ago and "ran" five 5Ks from May to Oct. I too am a slow runner (slower than you) and am shooting for a 30 minute or less 5K by the end of the summer. (My fastest is a bit under 34 minutes). I have fallen off the wagon so-to-speak in December and have only been on the treadmill 5 times in Dec (shame on me) after running 3 times a week for a year. Today is the day that I get back on track again ...and your post makes me really want to. Thank you!
Kris
That was a very nice blog entry and it certainly was worth following the link. Thank you.
I started a couch to 5K program last January and now running is a way of life. Even though I'm a middle-of-the-pack performer, I always feel like a winner. It's never too late to start. I'm a month away from 60 yrs.old and have 20 decent races under my belt for 2012 including a couple half marathons and a bunch of 10Ks. If I learned one thing that I would want to pass on to new runners, it is "Get the right shoes for your running style and get them a half size larger than your street shoes." That alone will help reduce the initial aches, pains, and toe blisters that might discourage a new runner.
Thanks and good point about the shoes - I remember being very skeptical when the running store sold me a half size up, but they're great!
I just added a post with my running playlist for that race - it makes me laugh but it was fun to run to ![]()

Thanks. I'm also a new runner and will be doing my first 5k in a few weeks. How often did you run in the beginning? I'm trying to figure out if I'm running too much? I feel pretty good and no real issues with pain or major fatigure. I'm assuming running 2-3 miles 6 days a week isn't too much??
