dude....i keep flirting with sub 200 - actually made it down to about 194 back in August 2012.  i ran the MCM10K this year as well - 59:18. - first time i ran 10k since 1984.  my body seems happy around 205-210, and as long as i can run, i'm happy.  Glad to know there are 200lb runners out there.  Will catch you at one of the races - sounds like ur local to NOVA - next race is the DC Rock 'n Roll half Marathon in March.

Checking in, I am still going, I did a New Years 10k and jumped in the ocean again, I also ran a training run this week which stretched into a half marathon. I am no where near my weight loss goals, but I keep on improving anyway. I am going to focus on weight loss in 2013 and finally reach a healthy body weight. I hope you are all doing great! I am also running the Hyannis Half marathon and hope to do a full in june!

@Org44 I wear the Merrell trail gloves to work. It is the same principle as the VFFs. It is a 0% drop from heel to toe with a big roomy toe box for your toes to move around in. Its feels like you are wearing a moccasin.  I think it will accommodate your toe challenge. Start slow, you will be using muscles that you haven't used since you were a kid running barefooted.

    200+ Pound Club!

    Hello all,

I am new to this group, though I found this website a couple of years ago, but never started running. I am a 30 year-old, 5' 6" female, currently weighing in at 225 lbs, who has always enjoyed working out (mainly weight lifting and swimming). I happen to be pretty healthy, overall, though I like to eat pretty unhealthy foods and have a body fat % of about 40%. Everything else is in the healthy range! I have yo-yo'd in my weight most of my adult life, so I'd really like to lose some weight and body fat and change my lifestyle to become much healthier, overall. I am hoping to find myself loving to run in the next few weeks, as I plan to start my C25K program tomorrow. I have been working through plantar fasciitis for the past two years, so if anyone has any recommendations for how I can effectively begin and contine my running program without reinjuring myself, that would be greatly appreciated!

    Thx!

    200+ Pound Club!

    Hey all,

I don't normally post anywhere, but this group really hit my fasination button! I am 58 and in starting my 3rd year of my most recent weightloss journey and my last! It's do or die this time literally! I currently weigh 220 as of this morning, and I am have been stuck at this weight since Christmas Eve. In my three year weight loss journey I have lost 180 pounds, so being at 220 is a great accomplishment for me and a weight I haven't seen in 30 years! I started running last year so I could join my daughter's hood to coast team. I am now hooked and can't wait to start this year's running season. I started walking 2 years ago, and never though I would be a runner, but I am loving it and find running less painful than walking! crazy, but true. I am also a barefoot runner and although I love my toe shoes, my favorates are New Balance minamalist shoes. They work great because I live in the NW and the toe shoes get really wet when it rains. There is fabric between the toes and water just wicks right in! New Balance also has my size! My goal this year is to run the 15K at the Shamrock and either the Rock and Role 1/2 marathon or the Helvatia Half, and after that I am not sure. I'd love to go to Michigan and run the Mackinac run around the island, an 8 mile run. It just sounds like fun! We didn't get into hood to coast this year, so I will have to get creative as to what we will do. Even thoug I call myself a runner I am very slow, so I want to increase my pace this year, and I am hoping to breach the 200 pound mark sometime this year! I enjoyed reading all of your posts, and glad to hear there are people my size out there doing the barefoot thing! When I started I was afraid that I would hurt someting, but it has made a huge difference in what I am able to do without pain! My hips don't hurt like they use to when I wore regular padded running shoe. I'm sold on them!

Im new here, first post, but am interested in this barefoot running stuff.  I fell off the wagon, so to speak, a couple of years ago, but prior to had begun experimenting with barefoot running.  Now, with the availability of this minimalist shoes,  and reading some of what is offered here, I think I am about ready to dive in.   I'm about mid way in the C25K so hopeuflly I can jump with where I am.   I look forward to checking in from time to time reading all that you all have to share.

Hey Jennifer - Welcome to the club!  To plagerize Confucious - 'The journey of a 5k begins with a single step'.  We all have to start somewhere, and a 5k is a great goal to shoot for.  When is ur 5k??  I've been running for just over a year - was @ 249 last year, and i'm down to between 200-210 a year later.  Ran my first 5k since 1985 this past May - 31:30, and have since done the Marine Corps Marathon 10k in Oct (59:11), and a New Year's Day 5k in Reston, Va in 28:11.  Training for a half marathon in March - the DC Rock 'n Roll Carefirst Half Marathon.  Stay active = i've found it's a combination of diet and exercise ((duh....)), and trying to keep the patients when the pounds don't seem to be coming off as fast as they should.

    Good day all,

i managed to actually get to the 220 lb line on the scale - one month late but made it non the less.  I've been running a little more as my knee has gotten better.  I've managed to keep moving forward and have broken thru the 220 barrier.  I am look forward to the next goal which will be 210 line.  its taken couple of years but I have made this milestone.  To reset, when I started on this site and journey I was up to around 250lbs,  its been slow but steady journey towards the next goal!

I hear you Wideguy.  Some days are tough to get the run fit in.  But since tomorrow doesnt look any better, if you want to do this now you don't have much of a choice.  Its W1D2, do it will only take 30-40 minutes.  How much time would you spend beating yourself up for not doing it?  Momentum is the second hardest part of this (getting out the door, or on the dreadmill, being the hardest).  Great quote I read this week - You can run your life, or your life will run you.  Hydrate on your way home from work, and get to it.

I look forward to hearing your success in the morning.
