The volunteers and those heading the race were helpful, bright, and cheery - something I can really appreciate so early on a Saturday morning. Packet pick up and parking were well organized and ran smoothly. I was greatly disappointed, however, with the actual 5k. There was no start mat to activate the chip timing, so unless you were in the front of the pack your time suffered greatly. Generally when chip timing is used, it is to offset the time it takes for those starting in the back to get to the start line. This was not the case with this race, my clock time and chip time were the same even though it took a full minute for me to even get to the start line - unacceptable. Also, the whole first mile was insanely bottlenecked. I generally run a 7:15 mile in races, my time for the first mile of this race was over 10 minutes because I could not get through the crowd. Really bad setup, guys.
Had a great time. The songs before the race really set the tone for the race and the stretching was a blast!
- We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
What Jessica said. The crowd at the start was ridiculous. There should be some way to get people that are going to start walking in the back and let people that are going to run the whole thing up front. Other than that, it is a great race.
