Re: Santa Monica Boardwalk 5k/10k Reviews

I ran this race in February.  It's more like a run club than an event, though they do time you with a timing device and there are number bibs.  I was number 9 or something (they just hand them out the day of).  The route is just along the Santa Monica boardwalk and is open to non-participants.  When we did it, the race organizers had us run on the public bike path because we were following an organizer who was riding a bike.  That was a little weird because I know it's against Santa Monica regulations.  I heard that the 10K runners got in trouble for that.

The race organizers were nice and they took photos, which was cool.  This event is really small (there were only 40 runners in our group).  If you're expecting a full on event race with vendor tents, closed off routes, or anything like that, this isn't it, but it does offer a nice run on the beach.

Re: Santa Monica Boardwalk 5k/10k Reviews

July 4th event: start was not where they said it would. They cancelled the 5K as everyone was upset and wanted a refund, as it is not an organized race, did not check registration, no bib number, etc... the "race director" wanted to send us North towards Malibu, while the race was supposed to go South to Venice and back. There were nice, but did not have a clue. My suggestion just show up and run along the beach; and if you want to give to a non-profit, give money directly so you know where it goes. Sorry I wish I would have something nice to write about this.

this is going on everywhere with MOVFitness.  there are a few of us nation wide that have contacted the Santa Barbara consumer protection group about this.

do a search on Active with MOVFitness...you will see how bad it is.

For those on this thread - please see the reviews for the Golden Gate Bridge 5K. Active has responded, but not in favor of the athletes. They will continue to post these fraudaulent races by MOV. I doubt they are aware of how widespread the issue is. PLEASE CONTACT ACTIVE TO SPREAD THE WORD!

    Dear Active,

The disclaimer is completely inadequate to better describe what the
event ("race") is about. There is NO race and NO event. MOV is
collecting registration fees - yes they call it registration fees - for
races that they either 1) don't show up; or 2) do not organize or plan.
They do not refund the reg fees and in some cases, have even written
    bad checks for the refund.

I have only seen ONE positive review on any of the races advertised -
and I would suspect that the review was posted by MOV. I have posted a
summary of the races that have been held (per the posts on Active) that
show all of them (that have reviews) have been complete scams.

What other evidence do you need?

I have to agree with the others that at this point, Active is more of
an accomplice. How much to you gain from continuing to allow MOV to
    advertise their events?

i'm currently doing an expose on Matt Hackney, MOVfitness, MOVrun, HardMagic and any of the other stuff he is running.  IF you have any information concerning Matt, please email mattexpose@yahoo.com.  I rather not expose my identity in the mean time but if you want to contribute to the story, please email me.  He has to be stopped.   thanks.

Matt is living in Santa Barabra, to escape the life that he left behind in Ravenswood WV. His Facebook page claims he is from Italy. He has never even been there. He still has family back in Ravenswood.. You can contact him at 304-594-6494. He will be hard to get in contact with, but keep trying, and we'll keep a current number posted for him as soon as possible.
